How to Drift: Backwards Entry Drift (Tutorial Video | Assetto Corsa)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A detailed breakdown of exactly how to do a backwards entry drift in Assetto Corsa. With over 10 years of drift experience in my 240SX in the USA and several Ebisu missiles, you'll get all the knowledge you need to successfully throw your first backie and develop your own style over time! While filmed in the modded Assetto Corsa racing simulator for PC, this tutorial strategy also applies to real life drifting and my IRL footage from other videos on the channel is included throughout. Let's get sideways!

    Quick tip for all of you: If your car doesn't have enough rpm after the entry, downshift a gear so you'll have more rpms so your wheels can actually spin after releasing the clutch and accelerating.

    I’m currently 15, and really proud to say that I already know how to do backward entries, and also another few driving techniques such as heel & toe, 360’s,« smart » mass transfer , « useful » engine braking, and in general i sort of really feel the car and know it’s own « physics » Obviously I know that it’s way different than real life but still, the first times that I was able to « apply » these techniques and show them to my parents, friends etc... I was extremely happy!! I’ll never stop learning so thank you Kame!!!💪🏼

    thank you so much I literally got an insane backie first try after learning that you need to get off throttle for the backie, before I'd do some insane rolling backies and be on throttle the entire time and be completely backwards through the corner but I could only do them like one in every 20 attempts. Happy to say now I'm doing backies within 3 tries full sending it every time in just half an hour.

I got the T-LCM load cell pedals, because I found the G920 didn't have enough tactile feedback for me. I started out by drifting 86's in sims, so my preferred way to clutch kick is to just keep it more or less floored and modulate the clutch itself. Not half-clutching per-se because it'd damage it, but deciding on the tempo and linearity of the application. If I want to "half-clutch", I'll apply the clutch multiple times, generally with less throttle so as to not shock the drivetrain too much, just to keep the wheels spinning. Like you said, there's many methods to it.

  • @KameTrick

    @KameTrick

    Arch yeah I’ve seen several people use that approach IRL too, I suppose it has a lot to do with what type of car you learn in. I learned in a 150hp 240SX so I have a lot of momentum-based technique even though my car now makes lots of torque🤙🏻

  • @ArchOfficial

    @ArchOfficial

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@KameTrick Somewhat related, but I saw you complained about that one 240SX KA24 mod not being able to slide in 3rd gear. Should KA24 240's be able to slide in 3rd and link corners easily? Or is it like an 86 where you might need to coax it a bit with the clutch/jacked up rear pressures? Also, how common are stock or near-stock KA24 240's, but with cut knuckles, camber tops, maybe even rear subframe mods etc? I'm not in the US so I don't know about what kind of spec I'd make if I was to make a drift spec 240 that's not some crazy engine swapped car. In AC, that is. Physics are proprietary by yours truly so a full-realism build should work almost identical to IRL, so you can answer like it'd be IRL.

    Hey man ! Love your content! I have a question regarding the setup of the car. I ve been trying to get big angles during the feint manouver and i am experiencing violent weight transfers that i cannot catch . What could i fine tune to make those weight transfers less violent. I am already running low height/stiff suspension setup.

  • @KameTrick

    @KameTrick

    3 жыл бұрын

    Softening the suspension some should help slightly, but I usually focus on what you can control from the drivers seat. Being at a little less angle when you transition, countersteering faster, and using a little bit of brakes in the middle of the transition (when the car is facing forward) are a few ways to soften the transitions. Mostly not being on the lockstops, which loads up the suspension more will help 👍🏻

    Can you do a tandem totorial? Edit: just heard that this will be next vid, but kept it under here, because I'm having trouble with it. And a 360, i can do the 360 but lining it up with the corner just seems impossible, or I'm too late or I'm too early. And somtimes the car doesn't whip around fully but keeps sticking at 180 degrees. Those tech breakdowns like in your drift totorial makes it easier too understand why.

  • @ArchOfficial

    @ArchOfficial

    4 жыл бұрын

    Turn-in with less steering and modulate trailbraking to get the slide going, then modulate throttle to keep it from needing to countersteer. Might not work in every car depending on brake bias and whatnot. Almost every RWD sporty roadcar should be able to zero counter out of many types of turns even with just mild power-over and throttle control, but going in can be challenging/not practical, and it's also not very fast in reality because you lose out on exit grip. You want to understeer slightly so you can apply throttle before apex and make the car more neutral, instead of having it oversteer.

    Am able to do it in assetto corsa and sim racing pretty easily but been struggling in real life in my e36 😂 higher speed is just terrifying when you're already going 10mph faster than usual

    Yeah, oddly I can do 360’s easier than backies, and get the car in the right part of the corner. On our local tracks, they’re a little slow for backies so it’s hard not to transition a little too early and come up short cause of how much more speed gets scrubbed than usual. Feels like a game of chicken between going off course or not making it deep enough into the turn haha

    Slap E46 spindles in it and I reckon you'll be alright, just toss it in there, hold the clutch in and it'll self-stabilize then you can dump the clutch while still at speed which won't shock the drivetrain, enabling you to send it through the rest of the corner.

    The funny thing is, I accidentally learnt a 360 entry before the reverse drift, I was having a blast on my s14 boss Silvia on oi wharf and at the end of the map at the hairpin, I thought it was a good idea to go full send and throw my car around the corner and little did I know I literally ended up in a full 360 drift entry.

    @@KameTrick this is a year from now, i can now finally do a backwards entry at ridiculous speeds and im able to get the back end of the car close to the wall while doing a 91 degree entry consistently. Honestly thank you so much for this video. You are the reason why i got started into drifting, im now going to move onto the next phase on learning to control a pro car.

    ToxicTube specifically for drifting your best bets are Assetto Corsa with mods, and Live For Speed! They are the only two worth looking at for realism that will carry to IRL✌🏻

    It's hilarious, I do 360s no problem by now (in the sim, I don't quite have the guts to do them IRL) but NOT reverse entries. I can't figure those out.

  • @KameTrick

    @KameTrick

    Technically yes, although it takes some work to make a truck handle like a drift-tuned sports car. When I goof off with stock trucks I stick to low speed stuff: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nmd2zdiCn8zXXag.html

    The thing with AC is physics are kinda blyat, carries you longer and deeper through a corner than IRL, doesn't matter how new the mod or cars are, the inherent AC tire physics are just kinda b@lls@ck to the point that professional Porsche test-drivers (not just drifters) told Kunos (who has/had Porsche partnership), and Steffanos went apeshit on them in the same old style lol. So with backies I just go in about as fast as I would IRL for a normal drift, then instead of max countersteer & throttle, I steer IN more, counter-counter steer basically, on approach rather than AT the corner, for clean backwards entry. The tires then start gripping up and slowing me down just about at the apex, I can then apply normal counter steer, downshift, and send it. It's actually far easier in-game than IRL because IRL you don't have that big window for making reverse entry.
