I wear my black custom orthotic Birkenstock sandals with my bohemian outfits. I have MS and have to wear orthotics so it has been a challenge to style my shoes. Luckily white sneakers and Dad sandals are in lately. Boots in the winter with my slip in orthotics are never an issue. It is summer style that has been a challenge. I tend to go boho chic so I can carry any handbag

Im a romantic bohemian...I was a poor student in the 60s and could not afford the luxurious boho items I wanted in velvet, silk, suede,and fur THEN...the syles of our famous singers or their girlfriends: egJudy Collins. We authentic hippie/students wore hand embroidered jeans it took me a month of evening to do my bell bottoms. We wore embroidered peasant blouses of the Hmong,Mexican enbroidered top dresses, clothing imported from undeveloped countries where hand labor was inexpensive. Now I LIVE in one of those countries after being a professor and administrator of universities. I had to suit up like a banker then in the 80s, 90s. I retired to Antigua , Guatemala where hand embroidered clothing is still sold ,,hand woven pieces etc NOW I can afford the embroidered velvets etc. AT 74 I am sure I would look odd most places in the US now but HERE the 20 something tourists from Europe etc coming here to play like it is the 60s and 70s, dress as I did back then. I fit in and feel comfortable wearing what for me is nostalgic. I feel so at home in my clothing and this place and many of my purchases go to support women who stay home on the mountainsides with their babies embroidering and weaving by hand for womens cooperatives...I love supporting their fiber arts and their thousands year old rural culture that one day will be totally replaced by machine made clothing and living in towns or in the USA. Their unique culture is disappearing just as those ties to the land disappered in Mexico, the campesino life and before that MY HERITAGE, the US rural farming life my ancestors lived. Something precious was lost in every country when humans transition from the land to towns and cities and I see it here, as I witnessed it in the 50s through 80s there.at home...Mexico is empty abandoned campesino countryside, no livestock, no homes,,no people, shockingly empty of life for my childhood eyes to see now.

We had a 70s themed summer party for work . One girl said I don’t know what boho looks like. They said look a D she’s was a hippie & still dress the same. I didn’t even realize it been dressing for comfort my whole life, but for work I tried to be boho chic & didn’t even know “it” was a look”. Lol
