How to Draw the Planes of a Portrait While Looking at a Picture (Preview).
#headplanes #cesarsantos #drawing
Working from life gives the real feeling of forms as they exist in space. Since sometimes we work from photographic reference, we have to learn how to experience the flat image as if it was three dimensional, to give artistic quality to the work we create. This video is a preview of a longer video where you will learn how to conceptualize the forms presented in a photograph, to create a drawing that feels three dimensional by understanding the planes of the portrait. I am very grateful to find you today, which was the first time I have seen your videos. I feel bad that cannot financially support your work, I don't make money anymore, at 73 and poor, but I pray that you receive all the blessings for a victorious career because you are a great teacher. I have learned a lot from the last three of your videos. Today 1/20/22 have been a great gift of inspiration to return to paint for I was almost given up on my passion, age and world pandemic don't help much. Thanks for your hard work and love for what you do and sharing with us your knowledge. Godspeed!
Someday Cesar, I'll shake your hands and thank you for the inspiration and knowledge you've provided me through this stage of my life. I'll push through the struggles of this pandemic as well as my life and I'll be a professional artist one day. I hope to meet you soon.

@@josesatanas2205 still struggling, but building a portfolio and got a few commissions along the way. Learned a lot about taking clients, and which ones to trust and which are too good to be true.
The use of line to describe the forms is underutilized by so many artists. My drawings are much improved when I take the time to build a wireframe that includes the planes
I find it so weird that out of all the KZread artists that I look at,Cesar being the one of the best, there are always so many people complaining or bringing up things that are completely irrelevant from the content of the video.

Thats marketing pr🗨️. They slow videos to increase watch time for more money, guess who's time is lost with irrelevant info...? Beware.. Dawn Of The KZreadr has just began👽👽. They thirst your attention.😂😂
The mirror or sometimes the camera is a reality that can be hard to face when I think I am finished.

I try to not think of it as a hard thing because if my eyes become lazy (sometimes adjusting things that are wrong), or if I have errors that can't be viewd by my perspective, having a mirror is the best thing to have. I try using it during the entire process, not just in the end, so I can keep correcting all the mistakes I notice or make. Try using it your favor, just like all the other materials and technologies. 🙂

Definition of a master- someone making something difficult, look effortless.. Thank you for the videos.
This is the first video I see Cesar Santos teaching and I am delighted. What a way of teaching drawing!
Absolutely amazing.
Fantastic Approach Maestro Cesar!!! Thank you!!!
Your paid complete videos have been very very good! They are well worth the price! Please continue!
I’m going to be a senior this year so I’ve obviously been thinking a lot about what I want to do for college and I told my mom I want to go to a art college instead of taking the medical field and I can tell she’s still iffy about it so I got to show her I’m 100% serious and develop my skill. Wish me luck 😭😭

I am new to portrait drawing, I'm still learning the basics, and your art just blew my mind! your ability to achieve likeability with few lines is amazing :) I can't afford your lessons yet but I can't wait to grab one of them :)
Man I have been binge watching your videos i have stumbled upon a gold mind of knowledge🙏🏾
Hi Cesar thank you so much for sharing I appreciate and love all your videos.
Thanks for the insights.
Amazing talent. And that self portrait over your shoulder 5:15?! Remarkable. Thanks for sharing.
I can feel the new neural pathways reaching into my brain and lighting it up when you say things like “the cornea (eyeball) pushes up the eyelid that way and then it (the eyelid) catches the light” or (to the effect) the “way her hair is sitting on that part of her skull (the plane underneath), pushes it outwards so it catches the light the way that it does” thank you! It feels so nice to have a new way of thinking.
Your skills are extraordinarily exceptional.
Awesome Cesar thanks for sharing

Thank you very much. Will incorporate your technique into my own art. Also, I love the way you passionately speak with your hands! :)
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You present us a pathway of so many new and different journeys. It's so exciting ( and ok, a little scary, that is inevitable) to embark on a new adventure. And hopefully I'm gonna be a better artist, and a richer human being for having taken the risk. All the best to everyone for '22.

Check Cesars blog on head proportions which answers your question. Cant remember which number it was, but it was one of his first videos. I found it very helpful to understand how to draw heads.👍
What is an ideal width of an eye .. plz anyone tell me ...
I am working now on bargue plates, but I really do not understand how to use the same bargue techniques to create portraits of real people

i am sometimes bothered with my under drawing of the head before applying the colors. sometimes the bad sketch is resolved by the time the colors are applied. should i be worried? i feel like some paintings come out as a result of luck.

chocolateknife if you’re fixing the drawing directly during the painting process then you’re getting to where you want to be at that stage. A better question is why are you making an inaccurate drawing to begin with? I suggest beginning your drawing with an envelope. Mark the borders of your subject, the farthest dimensions . Simple marks that can be moved easily. But take as much time as needed for this step, don’t rush and make sure these marks are dead on accurate. Then connect the marks with a simple outline shape. This is your envelope. It is very helpful to get the proportions right inside when the outside boundaries are in the right spot. Good luck with your art

I think maybe some younger individuals are used to 99 cent apps. Real classes: college, seminars, etc. are very expensive. These are a steal.
Russian academic style!!
👌 but you are young and having fun. I can watch all the videos you’ve produced and they will make me a much better artist. But, when do you say ok it’s time. You work very hard. I personally think you can be better than Sargent. I say this because I have an eye for it( only have one eye) so I see what others may not see.
Ich grüße EHC!
