Yazawa is an amazing person. Seems like she was able to hold onto that child-like love for drawing that most people give up or forget about later on in life. Awesome Video! ^^

We’re so glad you found this inspiring! And yes, exactly as what Yazawa-sensei said, you have to keep going! 🤗
Great video as always! In terms of drawing skills, it's what I refer to as the "one punch rule" whenever someone asks what the minimum technical "skill" level required is :) I find a lot talk about drawing skills, but not as much about writing skills or skills in terms of visual storytelling. So someone can make perfect anatomy but doesn't know the tricks to make a drawing "attractive" or understand how to frame a panel. By contrast, if you look at one punch man or early attack on Titan, the visual storytelling and flow is there, even if the drawings themselves and anatomy isn't great :) To use a quote from the movie "the man who wasn't there" - "she will never become a pianist, but one day she will make a great secretary" referring to the lack of emotion even if she was hitting the right keys :)

Great analogy! There is definitely more to creating manga than just our drawing skills.
Yazawa is my hero one day i will become a great manga artist 😊
Mentor Nao Yazawa is a very kind person.. i struggle many times in my art, because of that I stopped drawing for 7 years... And now I'm 25 I'm like a beginner again, but listening to Mentor Yazawa it inspires me to continue drawing, it's been a year since I started drawing again and everytime I felt discourage I listen to Mentor Yazawa's advice.. "keep drawing"

I am quite literally in the same boat right now. I started crying when I heard her say to "keep going" because I've recently gotten back into drawing and had to start over, which has been very discouraging. But having people like Yazawa sensei makes the process so much more achievable and gives me inspiration to keep going indeed.
Yazawa is just good person to get advice

Absolutely! It’s those decades of experience!
note to all the young/beginner artists who might be here: please, please, PLEASE!!! keep your old art, your old sketches, as much as possible. Even if they're ugly, even if they're "cringe". Keep them safe and date them if you can remember to. I'm 26, I've been drawing since I was 3. My mom used to have one of my drawings from back then for years, in a nice frame until it was stolen from us. And so much of my art ended up getting thrown away in fits of embarrassment or anger, or or because it got ruined because I didn't keep it safe enough (just leaving it in a pile on my desk was not safe haha), and there were other reasons too, but now I'm at a point that I only have maybe 5 or 6 sketches from my adolescent and teenage years and everything else from the past 5 or 6 years is saved to my google account so if anything happens to the original, I still have something to refer back to. The reason I say this though is because you might someday be feeling like crap, feeling like you aren't a good artist, feeling like you haven't improved in the x amount of years you've been drawing. One glance at a sketch that you drew years ago can make you laugh, maybe feel a little embarrassed, but it can also remind you of how far you've come. You can also use it to combat people who think you somehow acquired your artistic abilities through some fey magic or something, rather than practice. But mostly its encouraging to see that you have improved, that your art isn't what it was 1, 2, 5, 15, 27 years ago. So please save it.
im right now making a document for the manga that im trying to make thank you guys ive been lerning alot from your channel

Ah so I should return to tracing then? I'm pretty sure I'm the type that needs a mentor to pinpoint my mistakes if I understand correctly but maybe I'll understand and learn more things from the other videos. Thanx 😊

Hi Viv! There are many ways to copy. Tracing is one of them. Eyeballing (looking at someone else’s artwork and then trying to replicate that without tracing) is another. When you’re a beginner, these are great ways to start learning how to draw. You’ll be able to build muscle memory and learn from other artists. A lot of beginners feel weird about copying and think that the sign of a good artist is drawing everything from imagination. But even pros need a reference. Overall, just don’t feel bad about having to copy to improve your skills. It’s a natural thing as artists. :)
I really need to practice 😩

hi i just wont to say i never copy manga I cridea but it did not work out so i did not do it is that a good thing?????😕😕
I feel like a total idiot now for not considering the concept of all major art forms starting with copying until you figure out what you want to do for yourself.
I'm really thankful for this video! Yazawa-sensei strengthened my inspiration and motivation. I'm gonna draw my own manga, wish me some luck and patience❤️🩹
