How to draw like a child | Gav Barbey | TEDxUniMelb

Picasso once said that it took him a lifetime to paint like a child. Why was this so? What is it about the drawings of children that we, as adults, find so difficult to replicate? In this talk, Gav Barbey takes us back to our early years and explains how childhood scribbles and doodles, far from being simplistic and formless, actually speak to us in a beautiful pictorial language.
Gav Barbey is a Melbourne-based artist.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Gav, I am really inspired by your Talk. I have been drawing and painting "off and on" for many years and I always found freedom in my art because I describe it as "childlike and innocent" (maybe this means not vey good!!). Thank you for giving me inspiration through this Talk to continue drawing and painting like a child. I am working on bringing movement into my paintings but I'm not there yet. Your Talk really motivates me to continue...THANK YOU.

Have you ever heard of the "creation" stories of how the living beings were "created" by angelic beings (souls of light, soul children) - They were the Great Spirit's co-creators who created like mad all sorts of "creatures" and were so fascinated by their own "creations" and kind of fell in love with them, and got too close to them, that finally they fell from heaven to earth and became one with their "creatures". And eventually they (were) evolved into humans. .•°`* I like to think, that's where our "creativity" comes from - perhaps our first ever TALENT. ☺
