See there are four shells normally s,p,d,f or k,m,n,l There is a formula 2n^2 so, 1st shell will have 2 electrons means 2n^2=2×1^2=2 2nd shell will have 8 electrons means 2n^2=2×2^2=8 3rd shell will have 18 electrons means 2n^2=2×3^2=18 4th shell will have 32 electrons means 2n^2=2×4^2=32 And so on So for sodium atomic no. Is 11 So electronic configuration will be 2,8,1
