A little random, but does anyone else notice how they draw hair nicely in front view, but struggle everywhere else? I struggle with this problem and I’d like some tips from anyone else who used to struggle like that.

Other than trying to find references, i attempt to visualize objects in my mind the easiest way I know how (typically front facing), and just imagine turning it to different angles. It would probably be hard for complex things such as hair, especially since i dont really understand hairstyles. (Whereas, hands are complex, but i understand how they work so visualization is easier)

Probably bc you’ve familiarized yourself with the massing shapes of a front view and not sides or back yet. There’s a specific foundation for those angles that you can practice getting better at by drawing references. Try to visualize the hair as masses, how they build and fall at certain landmarks due to gravity and hair growth pattern. Just as the bottom of the ears align with the bottom of the nose, eyes are one eye length apart, etc, there’s a certain way hair is supposed to look.

im the opposite, i draw hair decently in different angles but struggle in front view

Salon hairstyle reference will show real angles with stylized lighting to help translate to line art.

Hello Chommang, I really wanted to thank you for all of your work. When I first discovered your channel, my sketches were always really messy and I would struggle a lot on so many little things. I would spent hours sometimes trying to get just the ideas right, and I would put so much pressure on myself to draw everything perfectly. But since I started watching your videos, my drawings have never been better! My sketches are now neat, and understandable by pretty much everyone.
