According to legend, during the Arab domination of Sicily, a young Sicilian woman fell in love with a Moor. When she discovered he was going to return to his family, in revenge and despair, she killed him and kept his head as a vase. These heads are now symbols of Sicilian passion and culture, found on many balconies and gardens throughout the island.
