Hi Sheshina! Your drawings are just amazing! I cannot praise them enough! I am a beginner in the soft pastel thing. I watch your videos a lot but one thing I can't get, is, on what basis do you decide to block certain specific areas with black at first? Please help me understand. Thanks for all these beautiful videos and the videos to come.

Thank you very much for your attention to the video! I use an ordinary sandpaper, granularity1000 as a base. I use black charcoal pencil or black pastel to tint the darkest areas. Since there are not always shades of pastels that are dark enough in tone. This layer should be thin. Then we work with colored pastels. I hope you understand me, since English is not my native language, I am from Russia.

How long do pastel colors last? I mean if you want to hang it or sell it? Is it better to use oil painting for selling? I'd love to know your openion?

Zeinab! There are examples in the history of art when a picture painted by pastels in a museum for over 250 years and looks great! Oil and pastel are different techniques both in appearance and safety. I would not compare it. Sorry for my unperfect English. My native language is Russian.

its very nice but i think the water flow at the front lacks detail and does not flow over the rocks in a natural manner there is to much angled flow over the rocks unlike the water fall in the background which tends to be the focal point of the painting which looks more natural but i think this should be the secondary point of focus

Mary, It's a tracing paper, it's needed to squeeze pastel crumbs. You can use an ordinary office paper.

I do not use fixatives. I use a frame with glass and a mat. Or put the tracing paper in the picture when I'm done.
