In this video, we go over how to install Sodium for Minecraft 1.20.4 including downloading Sodium 1.20.4 and getting the Fabric mod loader, which is required for Sodium. Let’s get started!
The first step of how to get Sodium in Minecraft 1.20.4 is actually downloading and install the Fabric Mod Loader. This is the Minecraft mod loader that Sodium uses to work with Minecraft. Once you have Fabric, we can move on to how to download Sodium in Minecraft 1.20.4. There is a link in the description above that will take you to our text guide on getting Sodium. Once you are there, click on the “Download Sodium” button to be taken to the official Sodium download page on Modrinth.
Click the “Files” tab and find the 1.20.4 version of Sodium. Then, click the “Download” button/icon next to it. This will start Sodium 1.20.4 downloading. You may need to keep or save it depending on your browser.
With Sodium downloaded and Fabric installed, we can move on to how to install Sodium in Minecraft 1.20.4. Start off by opening the Minecraft Launcher. Then, in the Minecraft Launcher, click on the “Installations” tab. Hover over your Fabric 1.20.4 installation and click the folder icon that appears.
Your .minecraft folder will open. In this folder, find the “mods” folder. If you don’t have one, just create one! Open the “mods” folder, and drag-and-drop Sodium 1.20.4 into it. It’s that easy to install Sodium 1.20.4 in Minecraft.
In order to actually use Sodium in Minecraft 1.20.4 though, you will need to play Minecraft using your Fabric installation. When you do, Minecraft will open with Sodium. In-game if you got to Options, Video Settings, you will be able to see all of Sodium’s options and configure them.
Generally, the lower you set your settings to the more likely you are to get more FPS and better performance in Minecraft. However, it is worth noting that you can get better performance with Sodium based modpacks as they allow for even more mods to increase your FPS. We have one called NotiFine that can double FPS over normal Sodium depending on your computer and settings that is linked above.
