Does your Downgrader contain the 1.0 HOODLUM EXE required for modding in your guide, or is it just the base 1.0? I've been trying to find a solution for my crashes mod-wise, and almost all of them have been CLEO related. I've been told that this EXE can fix these issues regarding CLEO, so I just wanted to make sure that I'm not making any possible errors along my journey to modding GTA SA.

It's the correct exe for modding. Use the downgrader here and you won't get any crashes related to having the wrong exe.

Hello everyone, if anyone was wondering this video rly works, i downloaded gta sa from crack and everything was ok but there were minor bugs - it came out my version is not 1.0 so i used the instructions given for the CD version and its working so far

Also a reminder that after installing and downgrading the game, delete the old desktop icon steam put there make a new one from the exe you provided from the downgrader. Otherwise your game will crash

Mine is stock files in a zip archive with the correct .exe. The one on GTAForums uses a compact .exe if I recall.

Excellent help here - but this also seems to have made it so that my radio doesn't work? A couple of channels only have ads or endless silence where a song should be; is there a fix for this?

Hey chief, I have my Xbox controller hooked up to my PC and am trying to play the unmodded, not downgraded Steam version of GTA SA. However, the lag is horrible. The beach dancing and the car meet missions are impossible. All other missions are extremely difficult as well due to the lag involved but not as bad as those two. Question is, will modding fix this issue at all? I am hard wired, not bluetooth and it is a quality cable too, not Walmart ONN junk. And I have way more than enough Graphics and Ram and CPU for sure. I appreciate any and all thoughts on this.

Are you locking the frame rate with frame limiter? Also mini games are bugged in vanilla San Andreas, the longer your PC is on the more out of sync they become, so you need to restart your PC (full restart, not just shutdown), that could also be part of the issue.

@@TJGM I have done nothing at all to the game as of yet. It is 100% bone stock straight from Steam as we speak. All I did was hooked a controller up, thought my old self was going to play it flawless and learned a very fast lesson and shut it off as it is totally unplayable as is. I have modded many things in my life but this game is not one of them. If I said I knew at all what you were referring (frame limiter) to I would be 100% telling you a lie and I really hate to get the party started with a lie my friend. Suffice to say, I am just an old fella who would love to play the game as it was back on the console way back when. Nothing fancy by any means. If I could accomplish that 1 thing alone, I would be the happiest camper you ever met. 🙂 I hope all is well your way and I thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to reply to me..

@@TJGM And I did forget to add, My Xbox controller is a 2nd gen (?? I'm not sure I'm a Sony guy). I have heard that will cause issues and I need to go back to a 360 controller wired. Just what I was told. After watching your vids, I am more compelled to listen to what you have to say more so than anyone else.

@@DjPorkchop73 downgrade to 1.0 and follow the 1st part of his modding guide and install silent patch. Once all of the initial setup is done you can get a mod for controller support and its 10x better than any native support. You need to use frame limiter to limit the game to 30 fps otherwise some physics problems can occur with swimming, climbing, and cars. Climbing at high smooth frame rates can cause instant death of cj because of how falling is calculated with frames and minigames are locked to low frames as it is so running high can lead to synch issues with the audio and timings

Can this method be done on the Steam Deck/Linux? If so do I use the same programs? I have noticed recently that San Andreas plays beautifully with zero hiccups on the Steam Deck and wanted to mod the game on there instead of my PC.

I cover this in the video. Watch it fully. Saves from newer versions don't work and the mouse is broken in v1.0, you need to mod.

I have R* launcher version. I followed every step and the game successfully launched at first, I can check menu and settings, but as soon as I clicked "start new game" it just turned into black screen with bgm keeps playing and couldn't close so I had to restart the computer. After I restart the pc the game can't launch anymore. I'm a big gta fan and I've never played SA before, all I want is a playable game without mouse sensitivity and widescreen issues.

I followed the steps to downgrade my RGL version of SA. Even got through most of your modding tutorial playlist too and have some mods of my own now installed. One problem, I can't save my game. Get an error about checking the save directory. Any idea why?

I have an issue. I want to install stars and stripes mod. I made your instructions, downgraded gta sa and added stars and stripes mod. But when I ran gta_ss.exe file (mod file) it was running downgraded version. I can not run modded version.

Why is your Downgrader different from the one posted on PCGW? The one on PCGW has a .bat file used to downgrade the files, but the .exe that I get afterwards is not the 13mb one that is present in your Downgrader.

i've had this problem where some radio stations only play commercials after i downgrade to 1.0 (downgrading from RGL version). Do you know the fix?

Done this for the steam version and it seems to crash when i attempt to get in a car 🤔 might be something to do with CLEO. Also, do you know any mods to help with controller support on this version? Playing on steam deck

This sounds like an audio issue, it's likely Steam updated your game after you downgraded, restoring the new audio files with missing music. Just use the downgrader on your game again.

@@TJGM Come to think of it, I did have that issue where I had to change the audio files name, so that they were all CAPs. Might have caused a slight mix up with the originals doing that, so I'll alter it in the download section before moving them into the main folder. Thanks

@@TJGM Think I figured it out: Because I installed this Essential Pack and Cleo separately, I had 2 Cleo's running at the same time, causing a conflict (one unpacked as "cleo" and the other "CLEO" so that's how they were able to co-exist and get mixed up) but so far, the problems havs been eliminated since deleting one of them :)

so is this similar to that San Andreas Downgrader from gtaforums? Cause by the files it seems to do exactly the same thing as that downgrader.

me personally i enjoy playing this game sometimes even tho i am more into bodybuilding now and modding it is more fun, i have the game recieved free on rockstar games launcher from the promotion in 2021 but i got a cracked version of it because the downgrader simply doesnt work and i knew how to get it cracked anyways (version 1.0) got silent patch, mega punch mod and some more stuff and having fun rn

Thanks, just finally downgraded, yet i am still confused about why so many gta sa downgraders ive searched on google are broken or either look so sketchy, even yours looked sketchy especially with 1.3gb+ of memory, hope it doesnt have spyware or bitcoin miners or that one virus that destroys my whole system and i have to reset everything... If Hopefully that doesnt happen, then i must also ask if there are any mods that i must install with SAMP, like essentials? would they interfere with samp?

It's 1.3GB because I included original game files in a zip archive, most downgrades compress them further using other tools, but I don't want to force people to download other tools just to open an archive to downgrade. Watch my modding guide, it's on my channel.

No version of San Andreas comes with an exe called "PlaySanAndreas". My downgrader doesn't need to detect an EXE either, it just replaces the EXE that comes with the game.

As far as I'm aware, no. SAMP is designed with v1.0 in mind.

If your mouse isn't working then the game is downgraded, it's an issue with 1.0. What else are you expecting to happen? You need to mod your game if you're going to downgrade, which I say in this video.

would this work on Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy ? The one released on October 16, 2005 ?

There's some issues that don't exist on the latest versions, however there's more issues on the 1.0 version without mods than there are on the latest versions. So if you're not going to mod, don't downgrade.

Just a heads up, this downgrader breaks K-Rose (I'm on the Rockstar Games Launcher version idk if it breaks on other versions). It plays advertisements and then either plays nothing or switches to another radio station. As far as I can tell it's the only radio station that isn't working properly.

That's strange, the downgrader replaces all radio stations in case Rockstar changes them in the future (they did only a few months ago). Try using the downgrader on your game again and test.

@@TJGM I did it another couple of times and the same thing keeps happening. I tested out a different downgrader and the radio stations worked but the rest of the game wasn't acting right. That specific file might just be corrupted or something I have no idea.

@@TJGM Okay, thank you! I've been playing around with it and what I've noticed is that only one of the songs on the station will play (Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man). It'll play the advertisement, and then if that song specifically gets picked it'll work. But if any other song gets picked it won't play anything and will probably force switch to some other station. It's really strange. EDIT: The downgrader doesn't have the original "CO" file in it to downgrade K-Rose back to v1.0 (found in San Andreas\audio\streams). In fact, the downgrader only contains 9 of the 16 files, so only some of the radio stations are actually being downgraded back to normal, not all of them. I reckon this is probably the issue, but I don't have a way of testing it.

Caution with that word because it's a cracker team name, your video can be tagged, I always refer to "EXE 1.0 US". Either way, that or "Compact" serves, practically all mods work on both without problems. I honestly don't like to download setups to downgrade it, I have the retail files from the DVD, it's simpler just copy-paste.

Agreed about setups. They always seem to have issues, so I've just included the necessary files to downgrade to 1.0 in a .zip instead. Thanks for the heads up regarding the team name, hopefully it causes no issues.

For some reason the GTA SA on my laptop (Acer Predator Helios 16 2023) just won't run no matter how many fixes and mods I try to apply on it.

I followed this but now the intro credits don't show, it has a muted nvidia logo and the souns play but no animations or text.

The only legit way to get the original games now is to buy the Definitive Edition on Rockstar Games Launcher. This will give you the Definitive Editions and the original games.

You basically can't mod without downgrading the game. Most ASI mods only support v1.0, it'll crash instantly otherwise. If you want to reduce your odds of crashing, follow my new modding guide which is releasing tomorrow.

I have the steam version and when I updated the files the game freezes on the opening screen that says Los Santos Airport. Edit: I think I figured it out. Some of the audio files were lower case, and didn't replace the ones in my folder with capital letters. Seems to work now. I'm also following this for a linux machine so I will let you know how the modding works.

Because there's been over 1GB worth of file changes in updates over the years, mostly the packaged audio files. I didn't compress them using third party tools either because then people would need to download 7zip or whatever to open the archive, so it's just compressed into a zip archive using Windows.

Unfortunately. You can still get it by buying the definitive editions on Rockstar Games Launcher, but that's ridiculously expensive for games that are all nearly 20 years old now.
