Chapters
0:00 Intro
0:37 1 Sit flat on the ground and put an object the size of a basketball next to your ankles. Rotate your body to the side whilst maintaining the ”frame” and move your feet to over the object to the opposite side.
0:52 2 Put multiple objects around you. Repeat the motion from the previous exercise trying to go around in a circle. Focus on going from one hip to another and having your upper body pre rotated.
1:15 3 Sitting flat at the ground, lie to the side and bracing on your forearm, lift your feet to 45 degrees and then press them down against the ground.
1:34 4 Set an obstacle floating next to your bow. Using the sweep stroke, rock the bow above the obstacle going from edge to edge. Try to do the same thing without a paddle.
2:01 5 Starting in basic position, hold the paddle in front of you. Work with your hips to rotate your torso to the sides to make the boat move from side to side. Focus on the movement of your feet as they push and try not to move your paddle.
2:16 6 Start as per the previous exercise; however, try to rock the boat up onto one edge and bring it down on the other. By adding that edge transition, the boat should start rocking in a circle. Add body rotation and look over your shoulder to the side that you are spinning to.
2:37 7 Do a lean clean. As an exercise try to limit movement of your upper body and focus only on isolating your hips.
2:57 8 Find a stable support point (pool’s edge) not higher than 20cm above the water. Set up your kayak sideways on edge and rest both your hands on it. There should be about a length of your torso gap between the edge and your kayak. Keep rocking your hips and try to push your bow under the water. Try using your hips to do that instead of your hands.
3:24 9 Whilst doing the previous exercise, try to get past your bow to the other side. After a couple of tries and getting more confident with your balance on your hands, you can try holding a bow stall. Remember to move your boat away from the edge so if you fall you can dodge it. Wear a helmet!
3:41 10 Starting in the basic position put your blade in the water next to your hips and move it forwards and backwards to rock the boat. Once you get the movement, start putting the boat on its edge but avoid flipping down. Focus on good movement, smooth strokes and as much edge as you can hold without falling.
4:01 11 Paddle forward and put the boat on edge, do a sweep stroke while edging to elevate your bow. Repeat for the length of the pool.
4:21 12 Paddle forward and put the boat on edge, do a reverse back sweep stroke bracing on the passive side of the blade and trying to push your feet down.
4:43 13 Do a first part of the double pump throwing the bow up on the opposite side that you intend to initiate, kind of like throwing your bow over in the lean clean, let the bow go
down on the leading edge into the water. When it starts coming up, use the motion that
comes from the volume of the boat to make your double pump easier, this exercise is
excellent for anybody that struggles with the power however, it needs good coordination!
5:21 14 Do a complete double pump.

Should I wear a cag to pool sessions, if I am practicing freestyle?

That would be very helpful as it prevents water from getting in through top of the spraydeck! However it is not a must and water at some pools may not be good if you have latex in your cag!
