HOW TO: DOD Delete + Cam Tuning! GEN 4 GM Trucks
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In today's video we take a deep look at tuning a Gen 4 truck. I go into great detail to try to make sure the viewer can get a good grasp at tuning a truck with a DOD/AFM delete and an aftermarket camshaft. The cam used in the video is a BTR Truck Torque camshaft.

Thank you!
Awesome stuff!!!! Probably one of the most detailed and logically explained tutorials!
By far one of the best tuners I’ve found to watch! Keep it up!
Thanks, finally someone that's willing to help out with some basic tuning
You do a really good job of editing...discarding needless moments in favor of the real meat.
No other tuner content like this,great to watch.

Thank you!
Just subscribed, gonna start tuning now that I’m watching your videos. Tuning my own vehicles. Thank you sir
Top notch stuff, I’ve learned more from you in a couple weeks than anywhere else in the 2 years Ive had HP. Not mention your local lol. I would definitely would love to see more scanner set up Videos.
Man thank you! I been needing some info like this. I didn’t know where to even start.
Thank you for all of the great info my brother! 👊
Loved the video, you earned a subscribe from me just with all the detail not many people do that.
Awesome video keep up the good work
I'll tell you what ,I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel. New subscribe here. I recently called up a cam company going to buy one of their cams for a2005 6.0 Chevy dump truck. I told him there wasn't any Dynos. or tuners around my area , in Vermont. I was looking to install the cam for pulling loads up hills and stuff. They told me to stick with the stock cam.😢😢
So i have that motor in my Caprice ppv and I'm getting great info from this video. I have a btr Cam and headers, i just bought HP tuners and i was messing around and got tricked(not really) into having to buy the extra credit so I'm so good with that but I'm terrified of making changes yet till i have a better understanding! Not like the old days when u needed a flat head screwdriver and a distributor wrench

Same here! Debating on buying a gen 3 Tahoe or Silverado to practice first. Don’t want to blow up my caprice 😂
21:03 the bolt size to plug it off is a M14x1.5 drain plug. I use one that had about an inch of threads.
Love the info you’re putting out. Have any tips on segment swaps like fuel segments in HPT? Also do you plan on doing any Holley tuning videos?
Keep up the great work, appreciate the effort you are putting in. But is there anyway that you can share your graphs and chart layouts?
👍thank you for the very good explanation of how to tune, I don't see that you switch Maf only and tune it, then do the VE after disabling the MAF?
Mat can you do a video on a 5.3L Gen 4 Tahoe engine on the truck norris and tuning it?
Another great vid. Just finished watching this one. Do you still do the separate high and low octane tables with the sbe daily driver/ mild combo boosted stuff, or is that asking for trouble since you don't have as much of a "tuning window" and try avoid knock at all cost. I wish some videos of these type were around years ago! Keep it up! Thanks again!

Thank you! Yes I always keep high octane and low octane tables active every chance I get. It’s rare when I can’t use that function.
Hey Matt can you show how to do the user defined math for VE vs dynamic air?
@MagicMike007

Did you ever get the math? I really need it too!
how much different for a 6.2 engine? or is mostly the same. Wanted to keep VVT so I used a stock L9H cam
Can you use the same oil pump with the relief plug?
Do you do 18 colorado 3.6 factory?? If so, is it best to turn off vvt??
I have a 2010 denali 6.2 that needed an engine so i put one in it from a 2007 denali can i just turn the dod off with hptuners or do i need somthing different since the stock cam specs are a little different.
can you show how to set up the histograms im not good with computers and could really use some help with this.thanks your videos are insanely helpful.
When you change stoich to 14.1, does that change the commanded in closed loop?
How does the ecu decide to learn back into high octane after learning down to low octane?
would you recommend this cam over the truck norris cam? as far as for towing an torque
1:01:00 Oil pressure had been 100+psi around 5k rpm and above. Now it's under (91ish-96 psi). What caused this?
Thanks!

I bought the range device to delete dod but now im seeing you can delete it with hp tuners, im currently waiting for mine to come in, which means if i delete it with hp tuners i wont even need (Range) right?
How are you able to add a horsepower channel? And could you make a video on what math to use to get it as a channel
Matt quick question how good the DOD delete work if the truck is with the original lifters just disable with hp tuners Or I have to replace lifters and cam?
@dreece2000
3 ай бұрын
I know you didnt ask me but The cam designed for heavy lifters. I see a power gain by just putting a stock cam in. I’ve done a lot of them. Just for the mental insurance knowing the lifter is not gonna fail is worth it. Just change the cam and lifters and be done with it.
On a vehicle with DOD, let’s say a Caprice PPV, can I simply DISABLE the DOD for now, to hopefully prolong any lifter failure, until I can correctly DELETE it? Is it as simple as the one click disable step you show at 4:35, or is there more to it?? Thanks!!

Yep, it’s as simple as that. I would also pull the intake manifold and retorque valley plate bolts in order to keep oil from leaking internally. There is a 99.9% chance you have at least a handful of valley plate bolts that are finger tight at best.

@@Matt_Sanford thank you for everything!
Would you be willing to share the math for your “ve vs dynamic air error” table? It seems to make shaping a vve graph super quick. Can’t wait until your gen v stuff comes out. Great
@Matt_Sanford

I will do a video on that but that will be once my platform is quite a bit bigger. Yes it take’s probably 10x less time for tuning when done my way versus the normal way for tuning VE.

I second this. I’d pay all day to have that
Ok so I’ll have to watch this a few times! What if we don’t have a Dyno and being a cheap ass like me I didn’t order the 02 sensor adapter can I still tune ok?
@Matt_Sanford

You have to have a wideband to tune correctly. What year vehicle do you have?
Were you making all your fueling changes in closed loop, or did you have the o2s disabled?
@Matt_Sanford
10 ай бұрын
In this video I was in closed loop to simplify the adjustments and make it easier to comprehend. Normally I am in Open Loop in my videos and when I’m tuning for customers. I have videos both ways.
I’m confused, how do you get accurate data from the wideband when it’s installed after the cat?
@Matt_Sanford
4 ай бұрын
The wideband is an oxygen sensor, not a fuel sensor. Although the converter can create a small amount of oxygen in the process of oxidizing HC and CO, the change on the wideband is minimal. Especially when we run the trucks at an AFR that is safe for component production.
So on a reflash what timing table is immediately default towards?
@Matt_Sanford
10 ай бұрын
Traditionally they will default to low octane if the calibration has been read out but nothing written back in or changed. If you write a calibration they will typically start on high octane.
Can you please explain manifold switch open / closed? Wth is a manifold switch?
I am a tuning newb so forgive my ignorance…does installing the wideband post-cat not affect the AFR reading? I would be inclined to think that it does but if someone could explain that I’d appreciate it
@GreatLakesLogger

Cats don't change the oxygen vs fuel content/chemistry. He has a video somewhere explaining it in detail. Can't remember which video
@GreatLakesLogger

Ah well, next comment below he explained it a little. These sensors read oxygen content, not fuel content
What is the price for doing that job?
Where are you located.
What wide and are you using and how are you powering it?

I thought it was hard on a single disc TCC to lock wot?
the age old addage........there's no replacement for displacement! 👍
Great content. Not really applicable without the layouts...math parameters....keep up the good work though.
I feel like hp tuners is the devil. Lol
Can I email a tune for you to look at? Compensation will be supplied. What is your email if all is good
