How To Dock a Boat the Best Way - CLOSE QUARTERS | Gale Force Twins

Ойын-сауық

Learn to dock a boat in tight spaces! In this video we explain how to dock a boat in close quarters using just your engines to pivot yourself 180 degrees and turn on a dime - this is how to spin your boat with two motors! We also show an alternative method to boat docking if you can't quite make the turn and need to use your wheel.

An easy way to remember which way each motor will push the boat in reverse is. Put one hand on each throttle, stick out your thumbs, that's the way each motor will push the boat in reverse. Opposite for forward. That's provided the port side motor is counter rotating, which most are. Learn Port vs Starboard and Bow vs Stern. That adds an extra level of professionalism to the overall video and makes it easier to explain which throttle you have in which position. Otherwise Bravo! Very impressive ladies! Whoever taught you two how to handle a boat deserves a cold one he did a good job.

I've had Evinrude's, Merc's, Suzuki's and now Honda since 1970! These engines are made to handle salt water and as soon as you turn them on the salt water dissolves the dried salts in them. I never had an issue in any of them due to salt deposits. Best Regards, Jay

Thanks so much for this tutorial. I have tried to get my 26 ft boat with twin 225 Yamaha's lined up with my boat lift (usually by myself) and I didn't really understand about the better control while backing. This will also come in handy when docking at a restaurant or even getting gas at a crowded marina. I need to spend more time practicing and definitely will watch this video over and over. When the wind or current happens, my tendency is to panic and overcompensate but now I know not to be heavy on the forward throttle. I agree with thegrtwhthunter that it is nice to see two beautiful young ladies educate rather than be exploited in string bikinis!

Excellent video, definitely learned a ton since my dual engine experience is in the single digit hour range. Would like to point out that the reason that the forward running engine has more influence at lower RPM's is because of the propeller design. The propellers are designed to push water most efficiently going forward through how the water flow is introduced to the blades, the pitch, and the slope and even a small amount of flair at the blade edge. Turned in reverse fashion they do still move water but with nowhere near as much efficiency and thrust as forward. So that's why you need more RPM in reverse to get equal amounts of thrust as the forward running prop. Neat video idea if nobody has done it: Source a sort of junky boat and motor combo (because it just might cavitate and blow up or even break the blades off), mill the propeller down so that it fits on backwards, compare forward performance with it on correctly with reverse as well as driving forward and reverse. Should be awful but entertaining. :-)

You can get a Y adapter for the freshwater hose so you can rinse out both engines at the same time. So instead of 20 minutes to rinse out it's only 10 minutes. 😊

Great use of the throttles and almost a lost art now for most with smaller CC's.

When I first saw a show of yours I became addicted to the shows immediately, The way you explain everything especially in this film is so educational. I love the part when you said "stop the boat does not mean put it in neutral it means put it in reverse! " than you showed how the boat was completely stopped. I am so impressed by you two young girls, you have the whole world in your hands, your unlimited where you can go. NEVER change! I am Officially subscribed!

What I learned most from this video is that if I ever strike it rich and buy a big boat, I'm just gonna hire y'all to captain it for me. #LeaveTheDockingToTheTwins
