LaShonna: Hey everybody. I'm LaShonna.
Victor: And my name is Victor Sho.
LaShonna: And we're going to teach you how to do the electric slide.
Victor: Mm-hmm.
LaShonna: If you don't already know the electric slide, we're going to teach you the basic form of it. If you already know it, we're going to add some spice to it so that your electric slide can be the best of them all.
Victor: Alright, so...
LaShonna: We start with four steps to the right. One, two, three, four. Then same thing to the left, four steps. One, two, three, four. Then take four steps back. One, two, three, four. Then you do a little step touch to the front, smack, and back. If you got that much, we add the step kick. The foot that's in front steps. The foot that's in back kicks. Now we're on a new side. This dance repeats over and over again. It's a line dance, so we're going to start this way. Ready? Four steps to the right. Here we go. One, two, three, to the left. One, two, then we take it back. One, two, left foot's in front. We step kick. Start again, two, three, four. To the left, take it back. One, two, three, four. Step, touch. Step and kick. Okay?
Now we're going to do the electric slide four times adding some variations to it. So the first time it's going to be pretty basic and the second, third, and fourth time we're going to add some spice to it. Ready Victor?
Victor: Yeah.
LaShonna: Okay. Five, six, to the right. Four steps.
Victor: You want to have fun with it.
LaShonna: That's right.
Victor: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
LaShonna: And chasse.
Victor: Chasse, chasse, chasse.
LaShonna: A variation of the step, the four steps. Touch the floor on this one.
Victor: Uh! Kick it out! Chasse again. Back it up.
LaShonna: Add a lasso this time.
Victor: Uh! Uh! Uh!
LaShonna: Chasse.
Victor: Chasse again.
LaShonna: Take it back. Now hit the floor and pick your leg up. Hit the floor. Kick your leg out.
Victor: Oh! And that's how you do it.
LaShonna: The electric slide.

This was THE Dance at every summer family cookout I've been to as a kid!!!
why all the mean comments? They are just having fun. They did OK on the basic and this dance can get boring. I think they're just tryin' to show us to kick it up a notch, but ONLY if you want to; otherwise, stick with the basic.

Great instruction, easy to follow, the variations are fun. I'm a dance teacher and a senior, watching you kids was a great little break for me while I'm sourcing ideas & choreographing my next dance fitness class for seniors. I may add the elec. slide or shuffle next time. Thanks for the inspiration. btw I'm 'white' but I can dance lol, there's a few of us out there but a lot of us are just good at the chicken dance. We used it to dance back in the 90tys to color me bad : i wanna s.. you up. So when this song was played the whole club did dance it. It is an easy to learn but good looking dance that looks great when more ppl do it.

As a musician, the 18-step version always drives me crazy because the music is in 8- or 16-beat phrases, and the extra two steps mean that the first step after the first and third pivot is on beat 3 of the music, not beat 1.

I remember doing this way back in the 80's. I also remember it being called the Harlem shuffle as well. Then some country folks got it and called it line dancing but they don't got no soul in it.

I was watchin' me a cool _Beverly Hills, 90210_ episode about a school rivalry shooting, and at the part where the gang dances with the Black brothas and sistas from that rival school, they were all doin' the Electric Slide, which I thought was pretty appropriate and cool of 'em. I laughed at it coz of how nice it was to see people move in that grooveline and get along with each other. You ain't never seen folks do that in a teen drama soap opera TV series, especially one of those shows that were extremely definitive and popular back then in the days. I loved me that episode of _90210._

Beware! This video is correct for the most part. But at 1:14 she "kicks" instead of stepping back the kick is one move too early. Notice how the guy is ready to step back, but kicks with her because he's such a professional 👌 Remember, tap your back foot before kicking! The rest of the instructions are on point! See ya'll on the dance floor!

I've learned to do the cross back and dance class instead of the heel click. It adds a little bit more flare for the basic step unless you do the heel twitch you're going to have to do the heel click or if you do the overstep with the heel twitch. I ain't no choreograph artist but the motions are fluid it becomes easy. I do a three count instead of a 4 count cuz your step back is a three count with a pause being a math guy that's my dilemma😊 it's an easy dance that everybody should learn 👍

This is called "The Harlem Shuffle" where I am from. The Electric slide is a TOTALLY different dance where you actually "slide" when you are doing it :-)

This dance been going on since like 1990 then my mom after her divorce learned it she was like 42 and I never learned so she tried teaching me and my sister ...over the years I've seen various addition like hand slaps too the ground and karate kicks ....But it's real fun when the dance floor is full and vibin
