I really appreciate this video. My daughter lost her only set of keys for her 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. She lost her spare key as well. I guess she forgot that I told her NOT to loose any keys!!! Anyhow, I happened to have a couple of keys that I had cut but not programmed. This may be a life saver for her. I'll know later today.

Thank you SO much for explaining this process. I was about to do a 3rd gen hemi swap into my Barracuda. This video helped me realize that it’s way too much trouble. I already have to play with all of the tuning and electronics on my Supra. Not what I want for my classic barracuda. Going to build a big block RB 440 stroker instead.

Only sucky part is if you remove the skim it removes the wireless locks and alarm.

One more thing I was curious about. Is can you try write entire instead of calibration. I noticed a lot of other security delete that’s what I saw was done.

I had a similar case when replacing a computer I changed the vin, and it didn't start. Which I could not solve with Hptuners when I saw this video I knew what was failing. Now I understand Thank you greetings.

Thank you for this .. My only issue is my HpTuners isn’t detecting this the 08 ecu i swapped my 04 out and never had an issue it detects it .. My 08 started the car a few times ran for a bout 2 seconds then dies but my Hp Tuner Says “Detect Protocol failed “

Hi Blake nice video ive watched it over and over but still have an issue with 07 Dakota and i hope you reply and can help. 🙏. Ive tried several different configurations disabled Skim & Skim Capable, with and without starter relay, wcm enabled and disabled, also did the retrofit each time still no crank as well as the start over can option both enabled and disabled still no crank Any advice would be greatly appreciated or the one last option you mentioned i dont think you went over it if that is applicable.

FYI 05 grand Cherokee if you turn skim compatible to disable, you get a start and shutoff operation. leave it alone and just do the skim retrofit program.

I have a Remanufactured PCM coming for my 06 Dodge Dakota 4.7. It is suppose to be plug and play pre-programmed with my Serial #. If I remove the Skim Module before I install the PCM, will it work?

Cool video. So i have a 2004 Dodge Ram 5,7. I swapped the cam for a 6,1. Now it needs a tune. Ive bought the HPtuner and credits. I can`t get it to read the ECM. It start to read then it goes to 50% and "Controller unlocker: Timed out" Tips ?

2005 dodge Dakota 4.7 v8 magnum has no option to retrofit skim. Contacted hpt support and was met with the response that skim can not be removed with hpt

Succky part is that the wireless tire pressure sensor and the door locks and alarm.. they dont work without the WCM.

Ok soooo.. lol I’m having a problem with my suv. I think the pcm is bad. It’ll fire right up and run fine for about 10 minutes. Then it goes to missfiring on the interior right bank. 2,4,6,8 but seems to run fine down the road.. Anything under about 10 mph it does the same thing. It’s a 2007 Chrysler Aspen AWD limited 5.7 hemi. The motor Blowed up, I replaced it with a Complete reman has like 500 miles on it. Came out of a 05 wrecked Durango. I had the mds deleted and had the rear o2’s deleted as well. Is the 05 Durango pcm the same other than it doesn’t have MDS built into it? They look the same. If I put it & the skim module and keyswitch in the 07 will it start and run and work? That’s my question for you. And is the HP tune is it just vin locked like can I program the 07’s vin into the 05’s pcm and use it and be able to use the same credits? Or is it vin and serial number locked? Thanks for any and all help you might be able to offer me..

I checked and the 2010 PCM is the same. Three slots have pins, one is blank. Still any input you have about Getting the 2010 Challenger SRT PCM to work in an 08 Charger R/t would be great! They are very similar in terms of interface; Gauges, shifter and so on.

The 6.1 engine never changed crankshaft tone rings like the 5.7 did in 2009. Therefore, the 2009 and 2010 ECMs were able to be programmed for either tone ring. In your case, the 2010 6.1 ECM will plug right in and run a 6.1 Engine in your 2008 R/T car, once you get the vin number in it changed to match your 2008 R/T

Great job! One question I had was if there is any status you can read from the ECM with HP tuners that indicates that it has disabled the system because of SKIM, so it is easier to nail down why it is not running?

There are fault codes for skim issues and you can look at the current settings in the tune to determine what is going on. Ultimately the best way to check is to try running it

@@SUBLIMEparts Just wondering on a new block up re-build and you are doing an initial fire up. Will that no-start, or 1-2 second start and die be enough to show a code? I.E. is it SKIM, a cam sensor, a crank sensor, etc, etc.

Will I have to have a BCM. Or can I simply send u pcm and u do what u do. Was going to use steering column but strip off all un needed stuff. Unless I would be better off using like a 1994 column. the truck doesn't have cylinder deactivate

If you delete the wcm module from a modern car. 06 - 10.. Then dissable skim. Would that work the same?

Had some skim problems with my 05 magnum 5.7 hemi went ahead and ran this process you explained and car now runs but I still have the constant security light is that common or should that not be shown after the delete ?

good evening I did a swap on my 2002 jeep grand cherokee I installed a 5.7l hemi engine from a dodge magnum r/t I was able to start my engine but only for several seconds then it shuts off and the injectors don't pulsate I disconnect the computer and reconnect it and it starts the engine but only for several seconds it is possible that it is the skim or you sell a computer with the skim removed it is the only thing I need to test it thanks I hope you can help me

They are. We don’t want to have to worry about high temps. These hemis don’t like it so we go to the upper limit on them.

There is NO "SKIM Disable for Retro Fit" option in the drop down box in the write to vehicle tab. Why is this? I am trying to do the extra step you explain that is so critical to the SKIM disable operation, but the option you have on your screen is NOT on my same screen! And will you please explain if the SKIM delete can be done with the ECM in the vehicle? Or does it have to be done with a bench harness? If it can be done on in the vehicle, does the SKIM module need to be unplugged before or after writing to the ECM? I am working on a 2006 Jeep with a NGC3 ECM. I have the latest version of VCM Editor at 5.0.4. This 2006 Jeep does have a SKIM module, a SKIM key, and it does have the two options in the system tab for the SKIM - BUT NO DELETE SKIM FOR RETROFIT OPTION IN THE FLASH VEHICLE TAB - so @#$&ing aggravating!!!!!

Do you guys offer to delete skim module? On 2007 Dakota V8 flex fuel/gasoline quad cab. If you do please let me know how much?

Question: In an earlier video, you showed when using a 2015 and up PCM, they require a "Start Signal Replicator" which will give the Start over CAN signal and allow the 2015 PCM to be used as a standalone. Do I still need this start signal replicator if I disable the "start over CAN" setting?

@@mikei.7425 edit: we now discovered how to turn off the need for the module with programming. We can now turn off that module using a different software we have. If you have a 2015 or newer pcm, we can do that for you

So dumb question time? Is there a chance that the pcm could reset itself? I have one that has worked solid for a year and now it doesnt start. Skim module is no longer in the car at all. I removed it completely. One thing i noticed in this video is that your fans kicked on instantly when you attempted to start it. When the pcm is working normally i have noticed that never occured. Once stuck in skim mode i noticed that the fans kick on instantly it will run a few seconds and then die. Again no skim module in the car at all. Pcm in question is a 06 pcm.

And also do you sell the bench set up ❤ Mann

Great video. Only question I have is… say I swapped 4 of my cars / jeeps with Hemi, Has HP tuners blocked Vin swapping or Vin cloning ? I do a lot of ecu repairs and I’ve had customers ask me this question. No one could really give me an answer. Like What’s stopping someone from buying the HP tuners hand held and just flashing the same Vin over and over? Not saying I would do that but I assume there is ppl out there doing it…

HP tuners chargers to change the vin on ecms, so you would have to pay either way.

So if I’m swapping a O5 5.7 Hemi from Ram 1500 into another 04 5.7 Ram 1500 (donor truck). Do I need to do this? (I want to use the pcm from the 05 since it’s calibrated)

Swapping into new is different, you will may need to do a few other things or nothing at all in your specific case. 04 and most 05 didn’t have skim. So it MAY just plug in and work

Is there any difference software than hp tuner?

2006 ngc3 ecm but there is no skim delete for for retrofit in the drop down box.

I email HP Tuners and they told me SKIM is only available on the Viper ECMs. So I am guessing that they took this function out.

Jeep Wrangler 2.8 CRD 2007 OK so I also (like many Dodge/Chrysler/jeep owners), have a PCM that has stopped responding to its SKIM module (probably faulty solder). Unlike many of you guys, I don’t have a HEMI, I live in the UK and henis are rare, often only obtainable from the jeep commander. What I do have is a 2007 2.8 CRD Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, and it’s unreliable as one second it will start and stay running, the next it will shut down after 5 seconds. This “PCM delete / switch off” is exactly what I need. I need this to happen. I need to work out how now I can source the software to make this happen myself. There is only one company in the UK that can offer this service, but they say they new they need some sort of a chip to do it - and are waiting for that part. Does anyone here know where I can obtain this software, either to import in from the states or to buy in the UK. #JeepWranglerPCM #WranglerPCMdecode #WrangerCRD

Any time a skim removed (skim disabled) Computer is installed the key ring transponder must be removed from the steering column away from the key lock to prevent an accidental reconnection by someone unaware. If the computer is going back in a newer car with a transponder.

I would just remove the power connector from the ring transponder. That way you don't have to actually remove it.

What do you mean by license code?

Does the read/write operation have to be done on the bench or can it be done while the ECM is installed on the vehicle, through the vehicle's own OBD port?

Is there anyway to keep a SKIM system with relative ease? Id prefer an SRT not drive away with a simple hotwire.

What would cause a 2006 ram 5.7 hemi swapped vehicle (skim delete) to start and run for several minutes and then shut off?? You can cycle the key and it will start and run for another several minutes and the cycle continues.

That’s not skim if it runs for a few minutes and restarts with the next crank. Skim will run a few seconds and not allow the engine to run again quickly like that. Check your diagnostic messages. Perhaps your oil pressure sensor isn’t plugged in or reading right and it’s shutting the engine down as a safety

I was wondering. If you have the original key fob and module could the computer work without the SKIM delete?

So on a 04 Ram 1500 5.7L with a black ignition key there is no skim enabled even if there is a skim module on the ignition lock? I tried to peek under the key cover and could not see a chip. There is a small dome. I do have a lock, unlock, panic key fob. How do I find the PIN code for my truck? This makes my head hurt.

It sounds like you have SKIM but an aftermarket key that just happens to be black. Any decent scan tool can obtain the pin for you.

Is the star connector required on all year and models. How and where is it wired in at?

Not all year, it’s a canbus thing. 03-05 trucks don’t use it because they are not CANBUS almost all 06-08 trucks do fine without it, many 05-08 cars are ok without it, but some are not. We have it wired in on the bench to make sure we don’t have any problems. 2009 and up don’t communicate well to OBD without it from our experience.

I've watched almost all of your videos and in a few of them you have said that SKIM in the pickups did not start until 2006. I have a 2003 that I've installed in my 89 D150. I have spark but I have no injector pulse. Seeing as how the coils and injectors both run off the ASD relay I checked for battery voltage on the injector circuit and it is present during cranking. So I installed a noid light on the injector connecter and checked it during cranking, no light. One thing I picked up from this video is if SKIM is active there could possibly be no crank either. I noticed that using the crank signal from the PCM and the the crank voltage from the D150 switch it will not activate the starter relay. If I add a ground to the control side of the starter relay it will crank when the key is turned. Is it possible that my 2003 5.7 NGC2 has SKIM?

I think you have a starter signal problem. Try adding a wire to pin 30 on C1 connector (all black ECM connector) that wire needs to see 12v when cranking

Hi, I have a 2006 Mitsubishi Raider, in the USA sold as Dodge Dakota 2006, My car does not have a Skim from factory, I had to change PCM from Jeep Grand Cherokee I did managed to flash it to proper flash number, but the PCM is from Skim vehicle. For what VIN I need to buy the credits?? For Jeep Grand Cherokee? or my Dodge Dakota? Usually there is Original VIN and Accutal VIN.... ?

You are flashing the PCM. So whatever the VIN for the PCM you will use in your swap. Make sure once you flash you do not reactivate it’s by hooking it up to a car that still has the SKIM decoder ring around the key ignition.

The 05 ram ECM is a tricky beast. Some have it, some don’t. Have you tried it yet to verify skim is active?

Hi I have a commander with this problem but live in Australia.Is it true that different countries use different software as a mechanic told me? I can’t understand for what reason this would be done

Yes it could be different due to different supplier sourcing and epa regulations. Canada is different than USA even

Yes, even though the hardware is the same, the software installed is different due to different emission regulations and thus, different emission control devices used in different countries. Australia usually uses the Euro emissions standard, based on my PCM sales there.

i have a 1999 dodge caravan - having big issues the bcm went out- cannot start my own car and drive it. i did have a skim remove from the pcm. the old bcm would turn the alarm system on light comes on. wont start. if i pull the skim module - try to start it will it start ??? or if i put a bcm module without the alarm in the bcm. would it start on that?

If you remove the skim module and then have skim removed from bCM it may work. Once you plugged in that ECM with the skim removed in your van, it saw there was a skim module in the van and reactivated skim on the ECM. So now your ECM has skim again. you must remove that skim module first, then have skim deleted from ECM.

I put a 2016 5.7 hemi in my 2005 dodge magnum 5.7 rt, and also installed a 2010 5.7 pcm, how can I get this setup to run? We got the car to turn over and all codes cleared with original pcm. Then we found about the reluctor wheel difference. We then installed 2010 pcm and now no crank.

Did you calibrate the 2010 ECM with the correct vin number etc?

@@SUBLIMEparts We took it to the Dodge dealership to rewrite the vin, and the tech said he couldn't do it because we weren't using the tcm port on the ecu.

@@jonbrantley8415 we can rewrite the vin, but I’m not 100% sure that will be your cure. Experimental stuff like this often requires us to see the car in person.

Im doing a similar setup, did u ever get the car running?

Vin needs to match in order for the secret key to transfer between modules, or the car will start and shut off. Also, on my tools, when I write vin it auto transfers secret key. And that's different than the immo password. But I'm a locksmith. I'm not sure what's going on here. Sounds like if you disable skimm and the car has skimm, the pcm will auto reactivate it on pcm. I didn't catch the 2nd part of what needs to be done. But why disable skimm? People don't wanna deal with it? I program ecm all the time and people ask if I can unlock or tune it and I'm like what are you talking about lol

This is for the purpose of putting Chrysler engines into old cars and have them run. Auxiliary modules are not needed for this

Question! So do the 03-05 hemi truck and cars not have SKIM? Is it as simple as a power/ground/ignition and get the swap engine running???? Can you please make a video on swap info for 03-05 hemis?

im not seeing the skim disabled for retrofit has it went away

04 Ram did not have SKIM disable. That started in 2005/2006 for the most part
