How to do retreat in daily life?
Mingyur Rinpoche is now on a 3-year solitary retreat. How might we do meditation retreat with our responsibilities of work and family? In this teaching, Rinpoche gives a number of examples of how we can integrate meditation into our daily lives. This teaching was originally presented as a free monthly teaching on the Tergar Learning Community: learning.tergar.org/course_lib...
This video includes subtitles in English and Spanish.

Can attest. I have been living the life of a daily retreat while working as a janitor at a grocery store for the past 2 years. I meditate in different ways while cleaning, helping customers, talking with coworkers, eating lunch, and outside of work while spending time with friends and family, while cooking, while eating, while walking... All the time! Always *returning* intention and focus to meditation. Be it focus on breath awareness, posture awareness or subtle postures like smiling, muscle tension and relaxation, and mantra/affirmations. I like what this guy says about using counting to meditate! 1...2...3...4...5...6...... What a wonderfully simple method of maintaining focus/concentration! Over time it really does feel like every day is a spiritual retreat. Truth and Love to us all 🙏🏻❤️

So it’s useful when instead of doing one meditation in the morning (30-60 minutes in my case), you can notice your in a so called trance, and just remind yourself to return to the breath, throughout the day, and in turn this new habit will slowly permeate your daily life, and instead of being caught in negative thoughts, past & future, it will be overridden by directing your attention to the breath, or mindful eating etc?

hey guys :) how many hours do i have to meditate for retreat at home ?? i have never done any retreat and have no idea about anything ..what's a daily routine or the daily process?? could you get me through the pth ?? coz many meditators say that without this discipline process (meditation retreat) is very hard to achieve the goal of non-duality or enlightement .. thank you do much :** Namaste

@@travisbickle8008 hmmmm maybe 8,10 hours but i don't recommend that. just 20 - 30 minutes every day is good. And the rest of the day do informal meditation of anything(sound, breath,or the meditation shown above) Your first step shall be to make it a habit by doing meditation for half a year without(i am talking it seriously)thinking about how much time it takes to become meditative 24/7 or when to achieve enlightment or when to have a clear mind where you can see thoughts clearly and you never wander....bla bla bla .Abandon these things it will come naturally if you meditate. Your first step shall be building habit and it takes around a half a year.
This monk is practical. Not everyone has the resources to make a retreat. I am physically disabled and cannot make retreat but i like meditate. Thank you so much. This is very helpful. 🙏

@@travisbickle8008 I think for retreats the idea is to meditate for as much as you can manage (like, emotionally). If you can manage max 1 hour of meditation in a day, do that. If you can do 5 hours, do that. If you're emotionally able to meditate, or attempt to meditate, every waking moment, do that. Building up to it can be a good idea to make it sustainable!
I could listen to this guy talk for hours.

Listening to Yongey Mingyur is meditation.
I was struck by his idea that intention to meditate is as good as meditation itself.

Dearest Mingyur Riponche, Thank you for sharing us your priceless experience on retreat and meditation. I wish you were my master (provided that I am good enough to be a disciple)
Thank you so much my mentor I love the way you teach and explain all things very easily.. buddha bless you :)
Stimulating and inspiring. Mingyur Rinpoche's teachings break our resistances, our laziness, our fears. It seems possible and easy to practice deep Dharma being a lay person, I don't feel any obstacles right now...but I know my tricky mind, and in few days, I'll need a new video with your words, Rinpoche...thank you.

This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my KZread channel 9 months ago about self development. Now I have 1,581 subs and > 1,000 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.
So lovely to sit with your teachings. Thank you!

One is grateful to the Master Yonge for these priceless gifts. I found this one the first thing this morning and I felt this one was especially for me. However, I am still struggling to do meditation daily.

It helps a lot! Just keep practicing and it will become more and more natural. At least it did for me. I incorporated a lot of different things into my life which helped quite a bit. I do daily water offerings, mantras on my lotus seed necklace and just general prayers for all sentient beings to be free from suffering. Every one of them gets me out of my monkey mind!
Such a beautiful person.
Hahaha. He is fun. I like him and his teachings
Great video. He's always such and inspiration. And he reminds me of Mary Poppins and her magical purse in this one, with him pulling things out of his robes!

This is Sherabling Monastery in India, not far from Dharamsala.
When you say session does that mean we are meditating for 1.5 hours at a stretch, or does that include various activities like chanting, watching dharma talks, some meditation, and related activities? I generally fit in a dharma talk video and a short meditation at night before sleep. I'm a beginner at all of this.
Thank you, Rinpoche. You are a pleasure to listen to always. You said, intention to meditate is a meditation, or intention to meditate is as good as meditation...I’m a little confused. Intention to meditate but not meditating… How does one keep that from becoming procrastination? I am quite skilled at procrastinating! LOL!
@andypeaston9473

You could try meditating on an answer. But joking aside, he said 'intention', true, but I think he meant in the sense of 'resolve': it is more important just to keep on meditating and not to pay undue attention to results.
What kind of meditation I should do? Vipassana is okay? or kind of Mantra?
what does he mean by retreat?
Hello All I want to ask when monk says in the beginning of video to do retreat at home and do four sessions in a day. My question is what sessions he is saying to do.. can someone help me with this. I want to do retreat at home but not clear how to spend whole day. I am planning to do two days in a month. I want to get the time table what to do in those two days. Thanks and regards 🙏
When you say take an hour or two session, what should the session comprise of? What percentage of reading, meditating, chanting etc?

I have a bracelet that has beads. Whenever I practice meditation for anxiety or decompression in public I'll take it off my wrist and count the beads. Also even though mask mandates have stopped I still wear them because it's easier to do breathwork without fear of judgement
