Thanks … one chap on the net said that while you are doing this you should plug the leads that go back to the common rail so that air doesn’t get in.

Yes. Very good. I always do same now. After been stung with a diesel specialist. Who had my pants right down. As being one injector down. But they went a changed all 4 of them regardless. And charged over a grand . So makes sense to do leak test. And buy a recon injector and fit myself. And recode with a launch programmer if needed. Fully enjoyed seeing you do that. Really was interesting.👍

I believe common rail fuel pressure is alot higher than 2000 psi, more like 2000 bar (29000 psi) or even higher with more modern diesels

newer cars up to and above 60,000 psi esp the Euro 6,as higher pressure and smaller amount of fuel gives less smog,higher pressures actually do most of the job as it smacks the piston down on the power stroke with less fuel needed for combustion.

Never knew my car had this sort of thing - very interesting! Look forward to the follow up video

yeah quite advanced for there age. I must say I love this car. I know she's old but she's bought and paid for and mine.

I work for a motor factors and by coincidence a garage I called at today were doing a diesel leak off test. As you say definitely two injectors need replacement, it might be worth replacing the third one depending on cost. If you replace all 3 you will have future proofed it.

Yes I think I will do all 3. depending on price.

When you change injector make sure you take note of the codes and wich bore you put them in as they need coding and you cant see them with rocker cover on

How about trying to clean the bad injectors in an ultrasonic cleaner, pulsing them whilst running through some injector cleaning solution.

How much diesel is supposed to come through the return line pipe while doing this test, stuck my return line in a 1.5l bottle and filled it up to 1 litre in just5 mins, injectors seems to filled to 5ml mark all of them . Thanks

How would you know if an injector was blocked

Does this test shows if the injector is stuck closed right? Is this test useless if the injector open? I guess what Im saying is that it is more likely that the Inj2 is the opwn one and needs replacing where's the other 3 are ok. Wouldn't that make more logical sense.

i reckon you`ve got 3 injectors which are cream crackered mate, really it needs 4 injectors in it and as most injectors pack up within a few thousand miles of each other, you might as well get a WHOLE set of 4 , and that`s going to cost what the jag`s worth , UNLESS your either going to rebuild them yourself which is not that hard or buy recon injectors which if your keeping the jag, is a no no.

Funnily enough after 2 weeks of being recommended this video, my 1.9 TDI (non pd) has started gushing out diesel from its 4th injector which is actually leaking out of the pipe where it sits on the leak off nozzle. Bought a leak off test to arrive tomorrow but with the diesel actually leaking from the hose itself, is that a case of the injectors that ruined or is there a sign of something more serious like an overload in leak off pressure?

Hello there. Normally the leak off pipes are just made from that braided rubber hose. Not high pressure stuff. It's common for the to perish and leak with age so don't panic. You can buy that pipe in sets of 4 from Halfords I think. Do your test with the engine up to temperature as I did on the video mate. You only need to run it for 2 or 3 mins. Not that it matters as 3 and 4 are knackered BUT u had the pipes for 3 & 4 the wrong way round 😂

I did the test and there was no fuel from the four injectors for 20 minutes. is that a problem?

If it's the mondeo engine the injectors will be shagged. It's an inbuilt feature of the tdci engine lol

Leak off test is a waste of time, if you have a misfire, save your time, get the injectors out and get them tested.
