How to do an Oil Change on a BMW 335i - DIY for 3-Series E90/ E91/ E92/ E93

Ғылым және технология

Tara changes her engine oil on her 2007 BMW 335 E93 using Castrol Edge 5W40 and a Mann oil filter. She also shows how to reset the oil change interval. This is for BMW 3-series 2007-2011.

    Very smart lady. You're saving tons of money by doing it on your own. And that way you know exactly what type of oil is in your engine. Another huge bonus is that you can then transfer that DIY approach and confidence to home repairs, which are usually way more extensive than auto repairs.

    You can place some large rags (an old bath towel with the right size hole cut in the center is great) snug around the filler hole and oil filter housing to cut out any messy splashes and drips. It all helps keep the engine and bay clean(er). If your Bimmer is anything like mine, (and from what I saw, I suspect it is) it doesn't need any encouragement when it comes to distributing it's various internal fluids around the engine bay. It seems to manage do that just fine all by itself!! Thanks for posting another great video. Cheers.

    Hi Tara. Thanks for all your tips so, I want to give one back to you. Don't ever give another car a jump with your 335i. It will destroy your starter which is about $1,500. About a year ago my battery was too low to start the car so I tried to jump my 335 with my other car. And it destroyed the starter. Luckily my car was still under warranty so, it did not cost me anything. And this is pretty much goes for most BMW's.

    Hi Tara, this is a great start! I have a couple of suggestions if you don't mind(maybe you already did them behind the scenes) 1) Show us the actual jacking point for the car. 2) Jack stands should be raised and snug against the point of contacts before releasing the jack(extremely important safety precaution) 3) Back tires should be prevented from moving in even the slightest with a piece of wood or something similar. 4) Oil filter shouldn't be placed on the concrete or any dirty surface since it increases the chances of debris getting in. Don't mean to be a nit picking fuddy duddy but I don't want to see you get hurt :) PS Dinan stage 2 prices have dropped a lot! $460 bucks for N54 and 600+ for N55. I'm gonna be getting mine tuned pretty soon :)

    You seem to have done your homework, good job Tara :) watched the video with quite a "critical eye" and could not find anything to complain about :) Like Tara did here it is important to fully loosen and even lift it a bit but not remove the oil filter cover first, that is because you don't want the oily filter to mess everything up on your engine bay but even more you want the oil filter housing to drain the oil inside it down to the oil pan and this only happens after you have lifted the cover a bit so those O-rings are free. Now after doing this job Tara, think about how easy this job would be on a lift :P

  • @TVTara

    @TVTara

    7 жыл бұрын

    +Kale83 Yes this job is so easy on a lift but I have to admit it's annoying without one and I don't look forward to doing it again this way.

    I know this is an older video, but the oil filter O-ring goes on 2nd groove from the bottom, not the bottom. Usually this will result in an oil leak from the housing if you ever get on the car hard. And not just a minor leak.. like oil everywhere.

  • @TVTara

    Hey, Tara Great Vid. How much was the oil filter adapter? Also I was wondering what kinda of issues if any have you run into with your top.You like an upkeep vid if you need to lubricate parts or something , would make a great vid. I am aggresively seeking to find your car in Manual Trans. i found a lot of 328i but not to many on the westcoast for 335i

    Hey Tara when you open the plastic cover notice there's alot of oil pouring out. You might have a oil leak on your valve cover gasket or something else. It is quite common for the e90s. you might want to get that fix or just add oil every now and then haha

    Hugo Tse Nah that just happens if you have been driving the car a bit before the oil change. I once changed a friend's car and he had just been ripping it on the highway but he didn't let me know.. when I opened it, oil sprayed every where.

    Good vid. The only thing I'd suggest for next time or other people, is to use a jack stand with a flat top, and buy some generic jack pads made for BMW's. They're cheap. They fit inside those blocks where you supported the car, and saves them from getting crushed. Also, I always chock the wheels, even with the e-brake on.
