The Raadha Kalpa Method is a comprehensive training program for Bharatanatyam devised by Rukmini Vijayakumar through her years of research on the mechanics of movement within the Bharatanatyam vocabulary. The philosophy of the training system lies in developing a neutral body and mind such that the dancer is able to be versatile and malleable within performance.
The program is primarily offered at the LshVa Studios, run by the Raadha Kalpa Dance company in Bangalore.
The online program is now offered on a streaming platform.
Subscribe to revitalise your Bharatanatyam and learn about alignment, injury prevention and developing strength, stamina, stability, articulation and imagination within your Bharatanatyam practise.

I never imagined , classical dance would be as traditional yoga! What ever you mentioned is exactly correct as Yoga too !!

Finally everything boils down to being aware of the Center Of Gravity and the correct distribution of the body weight through the limbs and joints! Everything done correctly will become easy. Everything done wrong will become painful. Maybe dancing in front of a huge mirror will help to notice one's own faults.

That was so interesting. It is a very specific position. I may be immprecise in writing it as Vaishya Kastanan but information about Bharatanatyam is pretty scarce outside India and I'm relying on my hearing and intuition. One of the speakers in an online event I attended to recommended professional Bharatanartyam dancers learn only one more dance style when growing up in order not to taint their form. She has a difficult name to remember and I didn't have the chance to ask her how her advice would stand for dancers who started learning later, but even without knowing that it is interesting to think how dancers from different backgounds would incorporate this form in particular. It would also be interesting to try to trace back the influence of indian dance forms in general to asian martial arts. Such influence has been confessed already by many sources I consulted, but being more precise here about Bharatanartyam and specific martial arts forms may be particularlly interesting. In this sense Vashya Kastanan is quite unique. One of the most famous martial arts positions one could compare it to is the horse hiding position(kiba dachi). It is very different not only in form, but also inpurpose. There are variations in schools and nationalities when the horse stance is concerned, I learned it most through karate and aikido presentially, and it can be altered even inside the same school when used for different purposes according to some, but roughly it is used to understand your point of gravity, strenghtening your muscles, withstanding strikes and being able to put out more energy in your movements by learning how to connect with the earth. An important reference for beguinners is to locate your feet a distance two times the distance of your shoulders, and with feet parallel to each other in order to tighten up your muscles. But, as I said, that can be changed according to your purposes of body conditioning or mobility and etc... There is a similar position in Sumo too, but it is not quite the same, because the feet are not parallel if I'm not mistaken and the body is bent forward, partly in order to enable the movement of pushing the adversary and striking with your palms. The distance seemed to be slightly smaller that 2 shoulders's lenght and I felt pushing your body upwards with your ankles became much easier, and I tried it during dancing.
