    Thank you for the information you have provided. In my opinion, the roof might be weak because of a mistake that needs to be corrected. First of all, we are using in our slab heavy cement blocks, and we must always be aware of the possibility of deflection. This type of roof consists of three elements, which are Beams, Hollow blocks, and a small beam which goes between two rows of hollow blocks (Ribs). Your steel bars appear not to be in the ribs since you left the area empty.

    Thanks for the observation but if you looked keenly the rib bars are in place. Single rib bars in sizes of D16 and D20, placed with spacers and centrally positioned within the rib space

    Hello salaam. This may vary depending on the design or how the hollow pots have been laid. The easiest way is to look at the drawing and find out how many pieces are required for 1M², then calculate the entire surface area of slab. Finally you multiply to find the total

  • @michaelw.evansc.p.m11

    The entire process from setting out of beams, fabrication and installation of formwork, steel reinforcent works and placement of hollow pots took 4 weeks, then concreting 3 days. However, the amount of time will vary depending of the size of slab, the amount of labor you put in place and availability of all materials to be used.

    Good clip, Michael. Are hollow pot slabs cheaper than the conventional slabs and if so, how much cheaper?

  • @michaelw.evansc.p.m11

    @michaelw.evansc.p.m11

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Njogu. Thanks.... Now to answer your question, hollow pot slabs are cheaper especially in huge spans where when you design slab thickness goes beyond 175mm thick. Cost reduction could be as high as 30-40%. But if you had a 150mm thick slab[for smaller spans] then substitute it with a hollow pot slab, the cost is relatively the same

    Hey Michael. Great content. Learnt alot from you and will be waiting for your next video. Quick question, do you ensure that the rebar between the hollow pots are tied to the beams or that is not necessary? Secondly what size of rebar and how many did you have between the hollow pots?

  • @michaelw.evansc.p.m11

    @michaelw.evansc.p.m11

    Thanks for your positive comments.... We usually tie the rebars to the beam mostly to ensure that it doesn't shift out of position during placement of concrete

    Hi Evan's, good content however I have a concern. How did you take care of shear Forces at the edges of the slab ie where the slab connects to the beam. I think the region should have solid slab up to some distance since hollow pots can not resist shear

  • @michaelw.evansc.p.m11

    Hi Dan, thanks for your reply and concern towards this hollow pot slab design. First of all I hope you recognize that this is a one way spanning hollow pot slab which means Reinforcements run along the effective spans only[one direction] If you take a close and keen look at this slab you will discover that shear has actually been taken care of... At the slab edges we have the rib bars having a u-return profile of about 1200mm. At the midspans we have a layer of T10 @200mm c/c top Reinforcements on every beam which spans about 2 meters on either side of the beam. This are placed before the BRC mesh Reinforcement is rolled over. They take care of the shear

    Your beams are not properly done. The rebar should be more on the underside than the top. That's where tension is. And your concrete mix is too weak and runny. Otherwise good to see a different take on slabs in ke 😉

  • @michaelw.evansc.p.m11

    @michaelw.evansc.p.m11

    Hello Mr George. Thanks for your comment but I beg to differ with you on your thinking that the beams are not properly done. If you look at those beams carefully, they have heavy Reinforcement for bottoms [as large as T32] and tops are relatively smaller [largest top Reinforcement is T16] except for the cantilever beams which have larger bars[T25 and T32]. For the concrete it could look a bit runny but as per our slump Test we are within the acceptable limits. This slab is about 20 meters above ground and if we did less workable concrete then it would pose a placement challenge due to the concrete setting fast.
