How to do a faded plunge hollow grind.

how i was taught to do a faded plunge by Marvin Winn at Max Cutter Knives. i was fortunate enough to visit his shop the other day and this one of the many things i learned how to do.

I'm new to knife making and I'll be trying this on my next blade. I like that you kept this video short and got to the point right away. Thanks.

Dude!! That’s a good video!! I haven’t been leaving enough of overhang on the wheel!! Maybe s 1/16 !! That’s my problem!! I need 3/16 !! That’s why you got such a nice radius!! Thanks man !! I got it now !! Can’t wait to try it in the morning!!

I have been making knives now for 12 or so many years , question I have for you is it harder for the user to sharpen the blade with the faded grind compared to having a standard plunge grind with a choil ? I'm not criticizing at all I'm just wondering because I have never done one . I really like the looks of it for sure , reminds me of a loveless blade . Thanks

Is it easier to do a curved plunge line with a big wheel (10-12 inch) rather than on an 8 inch wheel?

What speed do you like to grind those at?

  • @dwcustomknives1577

chris hunt, now I run them about half speed on my hard wheel, once I have the plunges set I switch wheels to a 20 duro foam wheel and go to a mirror finish. Very little buffing afterwards.
