How to Disassemble and Destroy a Computer Hard Drive

Erasing your hard drive isn't enough to eliminate sensitive data. You must "securely erase" it. Then if you're really serious about destroying data, try giving your hard drive the "workshop treatment." This hard drive is from a Vendex Head Start System Turbo -888-XT computer. Vendex, a Netherlands-based company, debuted this particular computer in the 1980s. The computer had an 8-megahertz central processing unit. Don't destroy these old 5.25" drives since they are getting rarer these days!

That is a very good example of overkill! After a few quick swipes of sandpaper they are unreadable. Surely you know that.

Bro, the hard drive prob was only 20MB if it was from the mid 80s. Only thing you prevented was someone getting a free copy of SimCity.

A simple, cleaner way to do it is by rubbing a mega super ultra strong neodymium magnet on the platters.

Just a little overkill, the belt sander alone is enough.
