How to Disassemble a Dell Inspiron 5570

Today, I will show you how to install an SSD and an SSD module (M.2 2280 slot) in a brand new Dell Inspiron 5570 Laptop. These instructions may be the same or similar for other laptop models in the Inspiron 15 line, but I am specifically working with the 5570. With an 8th Generation Intel i7-8250U processor, 8GB RAM, and a 1 TB 5400rpm hard drive, the one thing slowing the laptop down the most is the hard drive. I will install a Western Digital 500 GB SATA SSD and a Toshiba 1 TB SSD by disassembling the cover, with the intent of booting from the Toshiba SSD instead of the slower Western Digital SSD.
The tools that you will need are a Phillips head screwdriver for removing the screws from the laptop's cover, and you might need a smaller one for the SSD. You'll want to use an ESD strap or ESD mat because you'll be exposing the insides of the laptop to install the SSD. Finally, a couple throwaway gift cards or expired credit cards or some professional prying tools will come in handy for prying the cover off the bottom of the laptop.
While you are here, you can upgrade the memory as well, for which there's two slots - one already configured with 8GB of DDR4L memory (in my configuration). It takes up to 32 GB, so you could upgrade to two 16 GB sticks if you wanted to. You can also access your internal 2.5" hard drive, which you could upgrade at a later time.
Once you installed the SSD, you will want to reverse the steps - basically you'll re-attach the bottom cover. Flip it over and open the lid again, making sure to snap each tab around the edges. It's just a matter of screwing everything back together, which you can do in no particular order. Once all the screws are in, flip it over one more time and reopen the lid. Make sure to check the fit and finish, especially around the edges.

Hey Woopnik You won't be able to tell the difference between SATA SSD and NVMe SSD when you do things like booting the computer and web browsing. You'll feel the difference when you transfer files. Both are still incredibly fast to install windows on :)

Hey there. Thanks for the information on how to open it up. By the way, I have a Dell Inspiron 5570 too, but I don't have an optical Disk Drive like you have, nor are my internals the same. But I'm sure that I have an Inspiron 5570. I bought it back in 2018, so can it be that the different was due to a different yearly model (maybe a 2017 model, or a 2019, 2020 model etc)?

Hi once you fitted the the main ssd for the hdd, did you need to download any drivers? Dell has some for this laptop that help its frame work or something, just wondering if its needed as ill be doing this soon.

Hello Swift. No, drivers are not needed to install Windows 10 onto this laptop. After I am done with the Windows install, I download from the Dell website all new drivers. Very important: if there is a new BIOS available on the Dell website, download and install it. To have an outdated BIOS can cause the computer to freeze and so on. Always update all firmware on your computer. Have a good day. 😀👍

Hello Rowell. Thank you for subscribing to my channel. In order to remove the DVD drive you have to remove all screws on the back of the laptop. One screw, close to the center of the back, below the “Inspiron” logo on the right, is holding the DVD drive in place. Please remove this screw and try to remove the drive with something like pliers. After you took it out you can reattach the plastic cover. Have a great day. 😀😋

Hello Aaron. If you have a computer with a Thunderbolt 3 port, there's a good chance that you can attach an external GPU (eGPU), providing all the benefits of an Nvidia or AMD graphics card, without carrying around for example a bulky laptop. There are even a couple of external boxes that play nice with MacBooks, so they too can know the joys of super-high-res PC gaming. You cannot use a M.2 slot to connect an eGPU to a computer. Have a great weekend. 😀👍

You can buy an adapter from m.2 to PCIe, but unless it's a low-power GPU, you'll need additional power, I believe, like from an external PSU. Plus for this laptop you'd have to leave the bottom cover off or cut a hole in it. TechTablets has a video on the process and recommends an adapter from Aliexpress.
