How to Disable or Enable Two-Factor Authentication in Office 365 | Microsoft 365

Ғылым және технология

This video covers all the steps for enabling, disabling, or enforcing Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) / Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for individual users or your entire organization on Microsoft 365.
2FA is an essential security feature that adds an extra layer of protection to your account, but sometimes, you may need to disable it.
To enable or disable 2FA, follow the steps:
1. Log in to the Microsoft 365 admin account.
2. Navigate to Users - Active Users - Multi-Factor Authentication.
3. Manage 2FA settings for individual or multiple users.
You get three options for Multi-factor authentication. Here is the list:
1. Enabled: 2FA is optional, allowing users to activate it at their discretion for added security.
2. Disabled: 2FA prompts are removed, simplifying access but reducing security, often for compatibility or troubleshooting.
3. Enforced: 2FA is mandatory, ensuring every login is secured with an additional verification step.

To disable Multi-Factor authentication for the whole organization, you must access the 'Entra' option under the admin dashboard and follow the steps:
1. select the "Show All" option in the admin dashboard to access additional settings.
2. Click on the "Identity" option, which may open in a new tab.
3. In the Identity settings, select "Overview" to find general identity management settings.
4. Look for and click on the "Properties" tab under Overview.
5. Scroll down to the option for managing security defaults, labeled "Manage Security Defaults."
6. Disable the security defaults to affect 2FA settings for all users in your organization broadly.
Microsoft doesn't recommend disabling the security default for the organization.

Microsoft offers the following two-factor authentication methods:

3. Notification through mobile app.
4. Verification code from mobile app.
5. Hardware token.
You can enable or disable the methods you like.

If you need an app password, you must enable multi-factor authentication for the account. To create an app password:
1. Open your account
2. Select 'Security info.'
3. Select the 'Add sign-in method' option.
4. Select the App password in the list.
When you create an app password, you see the password for once. You can not view the password later. Make sure to copy it. Also, you can create another app password if you lose it.

You are welcome. To find the 'Manage Security Defaults,' open the 'Microsoft Entra admin center,' under 'Identity' select 'Overview.' Then, under the 'Properties' tab, you will see it at the bottom of the window.

Hi, Are you logged in as an admin? If logged in as a non-admin account, you can set up the two-factor here: aka.ms/mfasetup
