This is pretty useful. It took me like 15 year to figure out what to listen to when dialing in an amp. Moving the knobs rapidly back and forth is a great way to find out when they start to sound nasty. I'd love to see you dial in a single amp with different cabs just to see how massive of a difference there can be.

Hey! An excellent overview for those who want to choose a certain type of amplifier for themselves. I worked in the 90s with an unmodified 800 2203 '83 head with vertical inputs. Sound of a killer. If possible, test this amplifier. I think you will like it!

  • @EugeValovirta230V

Thanks! I used to own five 2203s at one point (late 90s - early 2000s and one of them was from ’83 and one a JMP 2203 from ’79 if I remember correct) but I ended up selling 3 of them and kept the two I still have ’cos I liked those the most. The 2203ZW I also have is pretty much a replica of a vertical input 2203 but just with Wylde’s graphics and 6550 power tubes. Great amps indeed and Marshall got it so right back in the day that they’re still my favourite amps after all these years.

It’d depend the tone I’m looking for, the guitar, the pickups, the day etc. 😎 That’s why I have SD-1, TS & BD-2 on my studio board so I use the one that does the job the best on any given situation. Usually it’s SD-1 no matter the amp but sometimes the other two does the job better 🤟.

People tend to ask for settings to have an idea I guess but I do agree they will be non relevant since we don’t have the same attack, left hand technique, guitars, cabs, IRs and headphone or studio monitors, so, it’s good to understand how you approach your tone shaping and try to replicate within our own style…

Hey Eugh, great video!!! I like my guitar tone thick and chunky, like my women!!! I have nwver used a tube amp so that explained alot of how to set it up for sound. I got Ampletube 5 max about a week ago and will experiment with this. I wasn't sure what presence did. Have you ever messed with the voltage going to the amp from the power source? The Jtm 45 Marshall is my favorite on amplitude. I put a tube screamer in front of it. Sounds like vintage Iron Maiden,Priest, rainbow,AC DC.

Its like with my dual rectifier, I run it with diode rectification, spongy(bold is too hot). And on the 3rd channel I have it on modern, the prescence almost dimed, bass 8 o'clock, mids 11 o'clock and treble 10 o'clock, gain 2 o'clock. It becomes middy and punchy in the best way possible. Otherwise too flubby. Havent seen anyone run it this way, like you said you need to use your ears!

When I played out, the guys in the band would get so ticked cause I'd spend a half hour trying to get my sound just right, weather it was the same club on a different day, or a totally different club all together.
