Multi Meter: amzn.to/2MeOvXB
Denso 673-1310 Direct Ignition Coil : amzn.to/2NJ7Np1
Toyota OEM ignition Coil : amzn.to/3sJ3et9
Autel Autolink AL519: amzn.to/381tGqf
My car (2009 Toyota Corolla LE) recently has a Check Engine Light (CEL) P0352 which indicates a bad ignition coil. I wonder a used one (recycle/junk yard/donor) which I bought has the same specification as the new DENSO OEM part. Based on my test, I was surprised the specification of used part is almost same as new part. I also able to determine that the ignition coil that create the CEL P0352 is not within same specification as the used one and the brand new Denso.
New Denso set Ohm at 200K touch Terminal 1 & 4, it has 197
Used (junk yard/Parts recycle center set Ohm at 200K touch Terminal 1 & 4, it has around 191.
Old original OEM parts from car, set Ohm at 200K touch Terminal 1& 4, it has around 38*.
New Denso set Ohm at 2000 touch Terminal 1 & 2, it has 309
Used (junk yard/Parts recycle center set Ohm at 2000 touch Terminal 1 & 2, it has around 307
Old original OEM parts from car, set Ohm at 2000 touch Terminal 1& 2, it has around 347.
Bottom line, the Junk/Recycle parts has reading similar as New Denso; therefore, I replace the #1 and #3 coil with the recycle part. After the coil changed, the car run much much smoother and quieter.
Thanks for watching.

Interesting. I think they should but the number may be way off than the good coil; however, I would clean it and sand it down on metal to have good contact but if it is still no number, it may be it is a bad coil due to contact broken inside the coil. HI, thanks for your comments. I got my from rockauto ; however, you have to pay for shipping and rockauto return policy is very bad ; therefore, don't expect return it. Please check their return policy before buying. I also get some auto parts from Amazon too but I will only buy parts Ship from: Amazon & Sold by: Amazon due to too many fake parts from third party sellers. Good Luck.

That's interesting. I would reset the code and swap 1 & 3 coil to 2 & 4 and see whether same code come back. Also, I would follow the wire of 1 & 3 and see any spit /cut and then clean the connections electrical wire cleaner and use some dielectric-grease on the connection. I would also check, loosen, clean and re-tighten the ground wire near the engine cover. Good luck.

@@wafel19781 if you have check engine light turn on, you can get a OBD2 Scanner Code Reader (not expensive) and it will give you code such as P0351 to P0354. The last number is the coil has issue. I have Toyota Techstream and went through all the data no misfire no codes everything as in shop manual now. I had code for ignition coil in cilinder 4 and replaced it no check engine until now. My issue is that my idle is crazy sometimes. Sits at 1000rpm when I go from Hwy to city driving. Sometimes it's normal sometimes goes to 1100rpm and it drops very slowly when I stop on traffic ligts( will go quick to 1000rpm and then needs 1 to 2 minutes to drop to 700- 800rpm if it drops at all). I know that engine load fan a/c etc has a role here but I feel that something it's not right. P/S If you ever take your throttle body of to clean and have a whistle noise with light acceleration let me know it took me 6 months to figure that out

I cleaned the throttle body without removing it due to there is an little coolant hose connected to it and I also do not want to mess up with the rubber gasket.; however, I able to clean it good without issue by doing it very slowly and carefully. You may want to clean the MAS sensor if you have not done that already.

The bad one should have numbers which is not the same as the other three good coils. On those good coils, the numbers are very similar to each other. The bad one should have a number with much bigger differences; however, if you have the scan tools, it will show P035x to.P035y where x, y is the number of that cylinder/coil and you don't need this method to find out. You can swap the test leads and note the meter readings. If one reading showed open and after swapping leads showed continuity with resistance, then there is a diode in the circuit. If the readings were the same, then there’s no diode.

Set at 200k Ohm and touching terminal 1&4 should have number around 195. Set at 2000 ohm and touching terminal 1&2 should have number around 309. Any number which is way off would be the bad one; however, if you have error code P0351 then it indicate it is the first one, P0352 would be the second one and so forth. You can then google the diagram of cylinder/coil on your car. Thanks for watching,

Is this resistance reading applicable to all toyota/lexus ignition coil packs

  • @diycheapdaddy2113

    @diycheapdaddy2113

    2 жыл бұрын

That's a good question. The above reading is for 2009 Toyota Corolla LE and I don't think it has the same resistance due to number of cylinders (4 vs 6) on other Toyota models and especially the luxury brand - Lexus. I have a 2007 Toyota Corolla CE and that ignition coil is much shorter and under a different part number and because of that, I don't think it is the same. I would google the coil specific to your car model and year. The other way to do this is, normally one coil goes bad first and you can use the other 3 good one as a guideline OR if you have the scan tool, you can swap the bad coil to another cylinder and the error code would change from P035'x' to P035'y' then you can use the good coil as guideline. By the way, even on the good one, they are slightly different in number; however, it cannot be so far off. By the way, don't get the Third Party Brand in Amazon, they don't last. Even it is so easy to change but the issue is you do not know where and when it will fail, you don't way get stuck in middle of Freeway or while camping in National Park. Thanks for your comment and excellent question.
