To load test a battery without special equipment..put your meter across the terminals..read say 12.5 volts..then crank the bike..if the meter indicator drops to 10Volts or less its probably a bad battery...

Nice video, simple but to the point. Load test is a great way to find those batteries that seem good, take a charge, and frustrate the heck out of you when it won't crank more than twice before it clicks!

Before jumping to any conclusions, go around and tighten ALL high current attachments. Start with the negative side of the battery and snug it up. Follow the negative wire to the frame ground and snug it up. Snug the positive side of the battery then follow the wire to the starter relay and snug it up there too. On the other side of the relay, snug the wire that goes to the starter and then finally, snug up the wire on the starter motor. ANY connection that is not tight will fail to pass high current at voltages of 12 - 14 volts and this is, by far, the most common "starter" problem that comes into our shop. By the way, when you press the starter of a bike (even if it's in neutral), hold in the clutch because many (but not all) bikes have a switch in the clutch that will prevent the start button from supplying current to the starter relay. When you test the starter as shown in the video, be ready because it will strongly try to jump out of your hand. Probably best to do this test near the floor so the starter won't have so far to fall and expect that there will be a large spark when you first touch the jumper wire to the starter. If the motor drags, draws a lot of current and gets hot while spinning, replace the starter. As it says in the video, if everything down to the starter, including the starter motor is working, but the engine won't turn over, usually you have already noticed that the headlight dims when you press the starter button. Something has locked up the engine and it's NOT the starter no matter what the bike's owner thinks is wrong. Do your own testing, don't rely on what the bike's owner THINKS is wrong.

my 2009 wr450f starts ok with a brand new charged battery but after a couple of days the battery does not retain the charge and doesn't charge any more. If I charge the battery outside the bike with a charger the E-starter works only for a couple of times the the battery is done, I clamed the warranty and now I'm about to decide wether burn my third new battery or sadly just keep kicking the bike to start forever. My technician says it might have a short circuit or a energy loss somewhere, he doesn't know. My halogen bulb seems ok as the type the manual says 35/36.5w so hopefully is not a car type bulb. Any idea?. The bike feels just fine to ride with good engine power and the light seems strong and normal for night riding, the voltage is producing I remember is over 13.5v so the battery should be charging normally although because there's not ytxz7s 6ah size where I live, I'm using ytxz5 4ah. It's a carbureted model so 4ah should be enough my mechanic says.

My 19 yz250fx acts like battery is low, push starter, I get a click click then it slowly at first then it seems to kick in and spin at the right speed, what could that be? Just by watching g video I see that the clicking I'm getting is right, starter is dragging at first then kicks over faster, I guess that's a bad starter?

I never like electricity problems on dirt bikes or to be honest at all my bike's.But my starter is doing a sound like almost ready to start but 1 time or two times then it starts those clicks.&when I charge the battery it's okay for a week.(new battery)Weird cuz 2 times same problem.

Idek what I’m doing tbh my yz450 is from 2019 and it was stuttering and then it shut off and I haven’t been able to find why sinxe this vid helped but I might just needa swallow my pride n take it in to a shop😂

So my wr450 has kick and electric start. Haven't pulled my starter out yet to bench test but. Question is.... ill hit button to start and just get a click. Then go to kick and its like the motor is locked up till I put it in gear and rock back and forth till its free. Then I can kick start but starter still just clicks. Can a bad starter cause my kick start to lock up?

i had an sealing failure, so engine oil flooded the starter, the starter barely spun..

What seems to be a problem of my bike it won’t start I didn’t use it for like 4months but before it does run. My bike is yz450f 2016

My brother's bike WR250 main relay is not being controlled by the ECU, I jumped the main relay blue wire to ground to get the bike started. The ECU has good ground and 12v supply, all wires from ECU to components has continuity, start, clutch, neutral switches are ok. All these tests lead me to believe the ECU is not grounding the main relay control wire, my temporary solution is to control the relay via a switch to ground, run the bike and check if the ECU gets hot, if it's cool then he can use the bike untill he orders an ECU.

Can somebody help me out please before I scrap my bike 🤣🤣 my 2018 yxf 450 just died when I press the stator button it just ticks like it's a dead battery but it is not I tested startor was bad sometimes work sometimes didn't I striped it down brushes where wore down one side I replaced all bushes and springs and solenoid beside battery and still the same ting what I did notice though do when I use multimeter put it on battery shows over 13v when I push the button it drops to 0v I thought was a bad battery changed it still same thing and with the solenoid with out pushing the buttons measuring from red cable side to black cable side reads over 13v but same thing when I push the button just ticks and reads OV I'm bringing to think the solenoid is a bad one would I be correct I would have thought with out touching the starting button there shouldn't be a voltage reading across those connections ??? Thanks for any help in advance

Hi guys my bike turns over, has spark but dose not fire. Fuel pump is working, just took it to the track and it turns over with nothing happening. Any ideas ?

I just bought a 2019 YZ250F with 29 hrs on it. Electric start works when engine is cold. After 3 laps on the track I get absolutely nothing when I try to start it. When the engine cools down the starter work fine. No clue what is wrong. Any ideas?

My bike is a 2018 yz450f and when I push start button it just turns fuel pump on and nothing else fuses are good plugs are good and I can take a screw driver and bypass reLay and it will start but I replaced the relay and still same problem any answers??

Hey man did you ever figure out what the issue was with your bike? I have a 2018 yz450 and it is doing the exact same thing. I can actuate the starter button and i hear the fuel pump turn on but i get no click from the starter relay and no power to the starter motor. You would think the starter relay is the problem but i can take the relay off and make it actuate(click) when i put power to it. I also installed an OEM replacement starter relay and still doing the same thing. Anyone have an idea what could be going on? checked all fuses, starter button is good battery is good

Kinda barely touched upon this at the end: everything gets dirty and a little "out of whack" riding trails. I would think the first things to check would be all the safety switches that prevent the start of a bike on purpose such as the clutch switch, kickstand switch etc.

I am having a starting problem with a 2008 WR250R. It takes multiple presses of the starter button and cranks to start the bike. I tested the battery, starter relay and motor and they are all OK. Also I replaced the fuel pump, ignition coil, spark plug, fuel injector, injector coil and air filter. What could still be causing the problem? Thanks

It's most likely because your bike has a neutral safety switch. This will have to be disabled for you to be able to use your electric start while the bike is in gear. You can do a quick search online and find what other users have done to disable this switch.

Yeah me but it's like its ready to start for 1/2 time's & then it starts clicking.But the weird stuff is when I put new battery it works for a week or two & then same shit.2006/December WRF450CC maybe cuz I don't use the bike every day & you know if you start the bike 1time every month or 2weeks battery get f**up

Just change the carbon inside of old starter , save money instead of buying new starter.

I did the circle of almost from all categories.i start from motocross YZ/CR&RM only for a couple of years(RM )when they was making good bikes back at 1996/97.Then xt-550 the old one&TT-600 old one again&after years with those i jumped to v-max 1200,fzr-750,R-1,cbr-1100RR,cbr-900&really i forget many bikes the list is big.But i ride from12,5 yrs old&I'm 41 so i destroy many bike's&this bike at the video its only if they pay you to run like professional or if you are member of YAMAHA team or too rich&don't care about$$$okay its new generation but no way for someone to buy this bike for fun! He gonna be miserable from battery/aluminum problems every week if he goes fast through trials or free style in the forest its 1of the worst bikes even for not beginners.Give your$$$at YAMAHA ofcourse but before aluminium,except if you are a Motart boy&you make dirt bikes like circus with wrong rears wrong tires wrong philosophy 100%for a five short gear bike made for mountain or races;)

One of the best video but one of the worst YAMAHA bike.I search and find one of the best or better for a couple of weeks the second best YAMAHA WRF 450cc mine is 7 of December 2006 my opinion about the best model for many reasons is 2007 the first model or the second of 2007 we all know that every year we have two bikes right every six month.So if you want a GOOD dirt bike & not a look at me & my bad ass bike.Stay far away from aluminum dirt bikes & all those without kick start at the Same time with electric starter

You just wasted 10 minutes of people's time ,,, I get it start to finish . Hum 🤔 , why not go straight to the starter ??? If you have power on the exciter wire in crank . And full voltage on the main power wire ??? Needs a starter ! ! Fairly effin simple .
