Kent joins #OntheMark to discuss what incorporates a Scratch Attitude. He talks about the relationship between Feelings and Thoughts and how it is impossible think positive if you feel negative. He talks about Emotions and how they are rooted in Habitual Patterns and how Rituals are more productive than Routines.
Kent describes how you can play golf with a "Playful" manner where you are: Physically relaxed, Mentally calm and Emotionally free.
He delves into that attitude and speaks about:
Emotional Intelligence and Control as the Foundation of Happiness and Success, the Benefits of Being Happy after a Good Shot, the Detriments of Dwelling on Mistakes, Journaling and its advantages, and the value of Gratitude.

Summary: golf is physical, mental, and emotional. To strengthen your golf EQ, he recommends Ritual journaling pre and post round. 1) what are you grateful for? 2) what do you love about golf? 3) if this were your last round ever, what would you want it to be like? 1-2 minutes each. Post round write down all your best shots. Best drive, putt, chip, pitch, birdie, etc. trains you to focus on the positive which spills over into your play and self talk. Good stuff!

Yep, and I'd twin this with the importance of good sleep to a golfer. When you've slept well, you are somehow better able to deal with the roller coaster of 18 holes. This is a really terrific interview Mark and thanks to Kent 🎉

This just reminded me of the time I watched Aline Crauter, 23 year old German professional, just win the LET Hero Indian Open in Delhi last Sunday. I was amazed at her joy and playfulness throughout the round on Sunday. It was the first time in her young professional life that she was leading and she was so happy and enjoying the moment in one of the more difficult golf courses on the tour. She eventually won by 4 and wowed everyone with her fun loving attitude. Something to emulate.

Absolute GOLD! Thank you Mark and Kent. I play much better when I have joy and thankfulness. Doesn't mean I shoot lights out, but man is it a better day.

Hafa Adai from Guam. Been catching your podcasts since I came across them about a year ago. This one right here paid huge dividends for me just by changing my attitude on(and off) the course.

Do you think a 12-13 handicap like myself, this would be beneficial ? Or is this 3 part question for scratch players ? Great listen....
