I'm tall and I would take the longest cane. That being said, I've been considering if the thickest hickory in an octagonal shape would be heavy but very slow? Versus the same cane but with the single tear drop edge, which removes some wood and some strength. I guess my question is, how much weaker is the tear drop edge shaft. Versus the handicap of slower but the advantage of more mass in a defensive strike.

Those are all great questions. A Tear Drop added to a cane doesn't weaken the cane when it comes to everyday use and walking, we don't advise training everyday with a tear drop. We would be glad to connect and answer your questions in more depth. Feel free to give us a call at 800-422-2263.

@@CaneMasters-WalkingCanes Thanks I'm definitely considering it, contingent on if I think I really would carry a cane everyday.
Ordered 3 canes in October 22 and received them before Christmas. Nice work, great stained finish, good shipping and well packed. I ordered 2 more which should be delivered sometime in February. The only problem I would note are the rubber tips. I ordered and designed all canes in hickory heart wood 1 1/8” diameter. Not cheap but worth the price as far as I’m concerned. However the standard tips are clearly not made for this size nor are the heavy duty tips of which I ordered 3 are even smaller. A quality product meaning the canes with 1 significant flaw. Cheap poorly fit, impossible the refit rubber tips. I am aware your company doesn’t make the tips but I will be keeping an eye on the website in hopes that a better supplier might be found and the proper tip sizes will be offered in the future. Thanks for an otherwise well crafted product.

I wonder if there is a "dip" of some material that would replace the tip. I thought of that spray-on bed-liner stuff they spray into pick-up truck beds. It might even be possible to get a shop to just treat the cane tip for very cheap. As long as the stuff doesn't hurt the wood, or slip. Also, hardware stores sell rubber dip for tools. Probably not durable enough though.

Why not? Lethal force isn't always an option. I've been blessed to have taken lessons from descendents of the Masters. Choose, Weapon and Target. Strike fast hard and through. I can see a trained cane handler being a very dangerous, and hidden threat
Be interesting to have an idea of cost ? Normally when people don't mention the price it's because they are over priced
