Hi Kathleen, this video was really helpful. Thank you. I am starting out flower shop from scratch and I am lost and don't know where to begin. Which flowers and foliage are the best when starting out. What is basic equipment necessary to open up a flower shop, and what are some pro tips to layout your products in the flower shop? Thank you for this helpful video. Would you please do a video for flower farmers about the best way to approach florists? Why aren't more florists using local flowers? Is it because they have always used wholesalers so they continue to do what they've always done? Is it because they are worried about insects? Is it because most flower farmers can't offer the consistency of having the flowers they need all the time? I would love to hear the florists' perspective on this wave of new flower farmers. Thank you!

Oh that's SUCH a good question!! I can't speak on behalf of all florists, but I definitely know for me, it comes down to 3 things (1) I didn't know you could work with local growers (2) I didn't know how to find them and (3) I didn't know what flowers they were growing, what was in season etc. One of the reasons I fell in love with my favourite local growers is because they kept me up to date with what was happening at their farm. They told me what they were planting, what was looking awesome, what was in abundance and what was coming up - so much pro-active communication, nagging and reminding. They also make it really really easy for me to buy from them. I know that sounds silly but they were super clear about exactly how to order from them and they'd tell me when it was ready for pickup (sometimes they'd even drop it off).

On the back of this, how does one get in contact with local flower farmers? This is my experience also, we would love to use them more, but don’t really know how… ! We are in Melbourne, Aus.

Thank you for the video. My customers in South Australia wont pay AUD 100 for chrys and carnations . At the same time they would like to spend 60-100 dol and have spectacular products

Hmmm....well, if it's helpful to know the only 'software' we used to get orders was Google Ads. I guess you could count WordPress in the 'software' category too (that's my preferred website platform). I've found that question of 'What problem am I trying to solve?" to be the MOST helpful question to ask when it comes to all tech + software. Just because the softwares exist, doesn't mean it's right for you and your business. I've never used any of the big name / fancy / expensive florist-built software solutions. But I've also never found a need for it. 😆
