There are many reasons why you may want to delete emails from your Outlook mailbox. Whether it is for the sake of getting more free storage, or just to keep your Inbox clean, I'll show how to delete all or multiple emails in your mailbox using the Outlook web app, mobile app, and with a help of Clean Email.
!!! Please make sure you really want to get rid of the emails you're deleting because the Delete action is irreversible and permanent.
How to delete multiple emails from Outlook in the web app
1. Just log in to your Outlook in the web app.
2. Select an email you want to delete by clicking the checkmark and then, holding the SHIFT key on your keyboard all the way down, select the final email of the batch you want to delete.
3. Press Delete on your keyboard, or the Delete button on the top menu, and the emails will be moved to the Trash folder.
4. Empty the Trash folder.
Please note: if you keep deleted emails in the Trash folder, they can be recovered within 30 days. However, if you removed them from Trash, the recovery is impossible.
Another way you may try is to create a new folder, move there all the messages you would like to get rid of and delete the whole folder afterward. This option is preferable, if you need to double-check emails to not delete anything important by chance.
Delete multiple emails with the Outlook mobile app
Everything mentioned above can be easily done on your phone.
How to delete multiple emails in Outlook on iPhone or Android:
1. Go to the Outlook app for mobile.
2. Select emails you want to delete, or you can select everything by pressing the Select button on top.
3. Click the Trash icon.
Deleting emails with Clean Email
One more method to delete multiple emails on Outlook (I'm talking about about Microsoft provided email addresses like @outlook, @hotmail, etc.) is by using a third party solution like Clean Email.
Start with signing in Clean Email here: app.clean.email/
Option 1: Quick Clean (Clean Email)
Quick Clean suggestions may save you a ton of time. You'll see your emails grouped by parameters like Miscellaneous notifications, Bounce notifications, and the likes, so you can move a bunch of them to the Trash in just a click.
Option 2: Smart Views (Clean Email)
The second useful option is using Smart Views, which are your emails categorized into sections like Emails from a dead-end, for instance. These are emails that you can’t reply to and usually emails you don’t need to keep. So, you can delete them all from here. There are a lot of Smart View options for you to explore.
Option 3: Auto Clean (Clean Email)
The third and one of my favorite options inside of Clean Email is the Auto Clean feature that can apply rules to incoming messages.
This means that you can have a clean Outlook inbox without manually managing each incoming email. Auto Clean rules will do it for you. All you need to do is to set up them once.
1. Launch the app and sign in to your account.
2. Choose the message you want to apply the auto rule to.
3. Before applying the action, check the "Selected and future similar emails" option. All new messages matching the rule will be managed automatically.
If you want to subscribe to Clean Email, just follow this link with a 10% discount on all the plans applied:

Your techniques are fine for a couple of emails. I have 20 years of an inbox to clean up. So, how do you delete more than 1000 emails from a given sender at once. Outlook seems to have a search limit of 1000 emails. Can this be bypassed?

How to delete 10 000 k emails from one sender ? when search by sender - you will see just 50 emails on the page so it is impossible to select 10 000 emails and click delete
hi. My delete files are still after 2Months in system , that is why I need help, thanks
Whatever happened to sorting by "Subject," then right-clicking the Subject header (which holds all the emails with that specific subject in the Subject line), and then hitting "Delete"? Every email with that specific subject in the Subject line would be deleted! It was one of the easiest and efficient ways to quickly clean up my Inbox! Is that option no longer available in O365?

You're absolutely right, and thanks for bringing it up! That method is still viable and we appreciate your insight. While we didn't cover it, mainly because sorting emails by subject might not always be the most common way to delete emails, it's still a valuable tip. Here's a refresher for anyone interested: 1. When in Outlook, click on 'Filter' at the top of your inbox. 2. Under 'Sort by', choose the option you prefer to sort your email (by Subject). Thanks again for your input!
I'm concerned that the permissions that you have to give to Clean Email are too invasive - it includes 'Send emails as you'.

Sure, your concerns are quite understandable. Google and other email providers allow Clean Email access to user data due to the company's alignment with their very privacy strict requirements. Clean Email has been verified by Yahoo and AOL as a trusted app that passes a multi-step process including verification by email providers and external security assessments on a yearly basis. Meaning that Clean Email is committed to your security and privacy- they do not keep, sell, analyze, or in any way use your data for any purpose beyond their public features. There is no select all option on the Android app. June 2024
This is tedious, use "sweeps" and "rules" to automate the process.
What of it's full space & not getting emails, so you get past one people sent to you once cleared or no ? Mines is full, but I have important pics, plus my mother's death pic & death certificate from docuvsugn whatever I don't have that app anymore cuz space & I don't need to use it much so that's the only saved emails between the funeral last & me, etc. So some other I can't either. I didn't know individuals emails if not never would have had this issue.

Sorry to hear about your email storage issue. Cleaning your inbox doesn't mean you have to delete everything. You can move important emails or photos to a specific folder to keep them safe. Clean Email can help you quickly identify and remove emails you don't need, freeing up space for new incoming emails. Also, for your pictures and important documents, consider using cloud storage services like Google Drive or Dropbox, they offer a good amount of space for free. If you need more detailed guidance, please let us know!
and it will be also deleted for the person that got sent to it?

If you delete emails from your Inbox, they will be deleted on your end only.
How do you delete all the results of a search on the app?? Because long press does not select an email like you can outside of a search and therefore select all does not appear. And you can't even swipe to delete like you can outside of a search. Seems the only way is to open them up one by one to delete individually which is ridiculous. This glaring basic omission is so typical of everything built by Microsoft!!!
I do not have the circle to the left in my outlook 😩

what if I want to delete emails from a specific sender?
@cleanemail
Жыл бұрын
In Outlook, enter the name or the mail address of the sender whose messages you want to remove in the “From” field. Click Search. Click the Select all checkbox to select all search results. Click the Delete button to delete all emails from the sender. In Clean Email, for instance, there is a separate Senders tab where you can set up any automatic rule or apply any actions to the emails of a particular sender in a jiffy.

You can use the From filter to locate all emails from a certain sender and then delete them all at once.

But most of them just pop right back up again post-delete!@@cleanemail It's driving me nuts. Need to do it on PC, not webmail (which doesn't work for groups anyway.) It always worked before. Is it fixable? Say I want to delete all emails with "New York Times" in header. Check them all. Hit delete and they start reappearing! Help! (And thanks!)

Did you ever solve this Chris? Or do you delete a batch only to have them reappear like mine do! Driving me crazy. Thanks.
