I dehydrated some of my tomatoes to make powder and it turned out really well. I mixed it with salt, pepper and grated parmesan and it is amazing on fries!

M dried and pulverized tomatoes were a great seasoning/add in for soups and casseroles etc. I don’t know of a perfect method for pulverizing. My blender and food processor will do it, but they don’t like it.

yes I dehydrated too but made the mistake of putting the tomatoes in the oven after many hours in the dehydrator. put them in for too long....out came all the work I had done ...burnt. ((sigh)) what a waste but good lesson learned. Next batch will be different.
You know this is brilliant. I always have leftover tomato paste because often a recipe calls for one or two tablespoons. It freezes but it often gets lost. I'm doing this as soon as my trays get available. I might need another machine lol. Thanks so much .

Trick, cut the top and bottom of the can, push one end through to the other end no need to scrape the sides the lid does it. My son taught me that trick and I have no idea where he got it from. I go through probably 4 to 6 cases of tomato paste a year. I use it in a lot of different things.

I remember when you couldn't cut the bottom off! But you're right! Being that I only do this once a year, I completely forgot!

Many of the newer cans you can't do that anymore. The bottoms are rounded. :-{
I use my tomato peels/leftovers from canning and dry/powder them... not as 'tomatoey' as paste but a great USE for what most folks throw away...

What a brilliant idea! I usually end up throwing away tomato paste as I don’t use the whole tin - in a powder form it will go a lot farther - thank you!

You can also put left over paste in ice cube tray 😉
I LOVE tomato powder because I add it to soups, stews, chilis and spaghetti sauces just for the added tomato taste without the water content added. A bit of that powder in a soup add flavour without adding chunks of tomatoes. So good.

I literally just ordered a dehydrator on amazon to use on all of my tomato skins from my garden that I remove to make sauces. I never once thought about it being able to do tomato paste! That is awesome!

I dehydrated quite a few pounds of fresh tomatoes over the summer, and lamented when it was over, because I didn't want to run out. It seems that I too didn't consider the possibility of deydrating paste. But I have now. 😁

Dehydrating tomato skins after making sauce is such a great idea!
Hi I’ve just found you and have binged on your videos, thanks so much. You’ve opened up a whole new way of conserving my produce. I used to work in a kitchenware store and your tips regarding the fail/not fail were spot on whilst using the Vitamix “wet” jug. That jug is designed to drag product down to the blades and chop, if you have a “dry” jug the blades throw the product up and reduce the propensity for heat build up. I loved that your video went straight into a fix and no waste and all your recommendations for working with what you have at hand are outstanding and I am loving that. Nothing wasted.
I think I have 1 lb of tomato powder. It was one of the first things I wanted once I moved and got my new dehydrator. It adds such richness in things and even people who hate tomatoes don't know it's there! It's an umami bomb. :-)
I love your videos!!! I can't wait to get started!!!!!
Thank you for your input, I love this video xx

This is great. I bought a #10 can of tomato paste at Costco and rarely can get over there. Then I realized I would not be able to finish it before it would go bad even in the fridge. But now I see I can dehydrate and store it much longer -- YAY! The can I bought was 4.99 at Costco and was 111 oz. (And be sure to keep those big metal cans. The ones that have metal on top and bottom but are cardboard on the sides can be useful too, but in different ways -- and definitely NOT as rocket stoves.)
Very informative. I have been wanting to try this.

That sounds easier than doing from scratch, ty. Ty, I didn’t realize that if you leave it in a leather state, it would last longer.

Thank you Darcy, Never thought about dehydrating tomato paste. Brilliant idea! It seems like you never use a whole can of paste and the extra ends up as dollops lost in the freezer. Will definitely do.

I always have leftover tomato paste in my refrigerator. And never thought about dehydrating it. Thank you. This is a very helpful. Love your channel
I spent the last week dehydrating frozen vegies to save space and so they can be stored longer. Now I'm on to my canned goods. I have no room and would like to free up space there as well. It's lovely seeing all those bags (and now cans) reduce to just a few canning jars. Thank you for this. I've liked and subscribed. Can't wait to watch the rest.
Hopping down your rabbit hole of videos. So glad you link previous videos. I can’t stand even buying cans of tomato paste since recipes usually call for some ridiculously small amount (less than one of those little cans) so this is a great way to avoid wasting the product and still having plenty on hand.
It’s also great for people who live in RV’s or tiny homes!
I love this idea!!!!

Thank you so much for this video. There have been so many times I have opened a can of tomato paste, needing only a couple of tablespoons, with no immediate need for the rest, and as a result, end up having to toss the rest. What a waste. I will drag out the dehydrator today and do this. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I have also taken a sheet of press n seal and put Tbsp. drops onto it spaced out. Then put another press n seal on top. Flattened them with the bottom of small canning jar. Press the area around each circle to seal in the circle and lay flat in the freezer. And when frozen I cut the circles out leaving an edge and stack them in a canning jar and put in the freezer. Then I just grab them out as I need them.
Excellent idea. I don't use full can's and this is perfect for smaller use. Moreover because the way food is going, space is becoming important real estate in shelving.
Yes! Satisfying. I am going to try this. Thank you, blessings from Ohio 🍎

Thanks! I want to do this not because i have ever used tomato paste for anything in my life. But because i have lots of tomatoes that are going to waste in the garden and i want to preserve them and use the least amount of storage space. I did something similar for raspberries and blackberries.

Yep - it was a revelation to me when I was doing freezer pucks years ago, and thought, "I can do the same thing in the dehydrator!" These days, I rely on the torn sheets more because it's just faster for me. I'm all about speed and convenience these days :D
A GREAT video!! Often I open a small can of paste & use only 1/2 for the recipe. Having it powdered would save all that paste I end up throwing away. Thank You!!
