Where you are can trigger certain attacks. If you're super familiar then with Margit you'll tend to only trigger the same few attacks because you'll always end up in the same place.

You can buff an ability, a weapon, an enemy, etc. The opposite of buff is "nerf", which is when you make something weaker or less capable and effective. They're using it to describe the development of the game but it's also a word you use if there's something in a game (like a potion or a consumable item) that you acquire or use that's meant to increase your abilities or effectiveness, you call it "a buff".

I have never played any souls type game and elden ring is my first. For this boss, I don't think I would be able to beat him without the help of the summon Sorceror. What I did was I summoned the sorcery and the three wolves we get, and got behind the boss and used heavy r2 attacks. And that's basically it. Let the summons tank the front of the boss, and from behind spam heavy attacks which will stagger him.

I like how you actually gave some tips on how to approach this fight unlike other videos that tell you to get overpowered weapons to cheat the game

@@dinglemccringleberry3887 it felt rewarding to beat the bosses after I learned how to counter their attacks, if someone told me to use a weapon that one shots the enemies then I wouldn't get that satisfaction, it would feel cheap and as if I didn't actually do anything to win

Ahhhh. Memories. I remember when I defeated Margit the Fell with my flame of ambition. Took me collectively around 13 hours (breaks included). Patience was a requirement. Particularly since I have never played a From Software game. I know newer players shall appreciate this. There's a certain satisfaction hearing Josh explained it whilst I'm nodding in 🤝 agreement. "Yep. Took me 13 hours to figure out & perfect all that. Josh is doing it in about 10 minutes. LOL" Matter of fact, I made a screenshot I was so elated. GREAT ENEMY FELLED!!!

13 hours ?????? 😮. Theres a guy on here who destroyed Margit in 3 minutes with no armour on, just his pants !!! Took me 5 attempts and I eventually knocked him out in 5 minutes with the help of the wolf spirit thing and some +3 weapons.

Hey Man great video I believe there a few key points of aggression that you could capitalize on, 1. when hes charging in for his double swipe like at 2:17 you can go behind him and force damage into his back and he will slam his cane down like he does at 4:30 every time and get free damage 2. while you are behind him after he does a move such as number 1 he will do a tail swing, if you time it properly you can jump heavy him while hes doing his spin animation for a bit of style points, or if you have a heavy weapon it can stagger him very easily I hope this explains what I mean nicely again great video

I just came across this video, because I was looking for some tips for fighting Margit, but I think the game has been patched or something. The Margit I'm fighting has a lot of the same moves, but that move that you suggest attacking is different. When Margit slams the ground with his staff, he IMMEDIATELY throws an energy knife at you, so you can't attack him at that time.

It's not different, it's a continuation of the same combo. Margit and some other bosses in this game has a knack of extending their attack combos and sometimes even tying some of them together into very long chains. It's been like this since day one, I promise!

I just started elder ring i play 2 hrs now and i have breaked one controller of my rage although this game is good but i prefer ds 3

You’ve only played for 2 hours and you’re up to this boss already ???😮. No wonder you’re smashing up your controller. Im 59 hours in, level 55 with a load of +3 weapons and although I managed to kill him earlier today, he was still really tough. I got 9000 runes for the trouble, explored the castle a bit more, got killed in a really nasty place, and lost all my runes 🤬🤬🤬🤬. I couldn’t even go back and collect them because somehow when I got killed all the runes were left floating in the air just off the edge of a monstrous cliff edge!

This is one of those fights were it’s grueling at first and early game me got curb stomped but once you figure out the patterns and windows of opportunity then it becomes an engaging and fun fight. This was one of the fights I was most looking forward to when I fired up my 2nd run

I have been trying to work out if he has patterns but can’t see any. He just seems to attack aggressively as soon as you enter that level. I’m level 55 with some hefty weapons but can’t even scratch him. Think my days playing this are coming to an end 🙁

​@DorisDay-lw4xs use the Margit shackle for the first bit of the fight and use your spirit summon while he is shackled for the second time. I used the wolves with the sorcerer and barely managed to win😅

Been stuck on this nearly 4 months. And tbh I'm doing all the right dodging and timing it but for some reason he's still hitting. No idea

It killed the game for me. Shame as I was really enjoying it up until then. I expect to find a boss like this guy at the end of a game, not at the start.

Just started elden ring after sekiro being my first fromsoftware game and it is grueling trying to figure out what can and can't be parried. Margit was the first boss I beat by using the sorcerer summon. The funny thing is I died and the sorceror kept on going. He killed him for me right as the "You Died" came up on screen.

Ill try to follow your tips and if I manage to beat him ill be happy but at the same time, looking on you tube for tips and strats feels like its not me who defeats him, since I know that on my own I wouldn't have been able to defeat him.

I always get the bloodhound fang, upgrade to at least +4 and get to like level 40 and spam bloodhound finesse. Gonna start my first ever get gud playthrough whenever i get off of work

When i first fought him in 2022 i got destroyed, then switched to parrying because i used to do that a lot in ds3 and that just trivialized the fight. Margit was a good starting boss

I’ve fought this boss about 50 times now? But what’s crazy is that every fight is just so fun that I don’t ever get frustrated. It requires such precision and mastery that I have so much fun learning how to beat him. What makes it harder is that I’ve not played a souls game before, and learning how to deal with the dodge delay is really strange

It's completely normal to do overthink when it comes to bosses in souls-like games! Best thing you can do is keep your cool and be proactive about countering the bosses attacks. Good luck out there!

You can do it at any level, but I'd say to get to at least 25. Ideally you can get to 35+ by just clearing all the dungeons in Limgrave and Weeping Peninsula and just doing basic exploring around the open areas before taking on Margit.

Well, I managed to get him below his last quarter of health after only playing for 5 hours so here's hoping...

Just bought this game 2 days ago, im currently level 22, my first souls like game and im loving it. I think margit has more moveset now and he is more aggrrsive like doing a 20 hit combo non stop. I defeated him just now after fckng 7 hrs. I defeated tree sentinel before margit for like 12 fckng hrs. This game brings out the best and worst in you hahaha. Since its my 1st souls like i dont know how to build the character, i chose the samurai coz samurai is badass looking. Can someone advice me how to build the character what are the best attribute

Congrats on getting through two tough fights! Margit's moveset is the same now as it was on day one, he's had no changes. He's just able to combo a lot of his attacks together and does indeed have some special attacks where he goes a bit crazy. As far as what attributes to look out for, it all depends on what weapon and armor you're trying to use. Class selection only matters at the very beginning of the game as it determines what stats you have early. Heavier armor requires more endurance as it raises your max weight capacity. Weapons like katanas require dexterity to do more damage with, but there are some special exceptions within that weapon class that require strength. To figure out what stats a weapon scales with, look at it in your inventory and you'll see the scaling attributes on the bottom of the stats screen. Character building in Souls games and Elden Ring are pretty free, where you can focus on what you want at any time. Just don't spread your stats too thin trying to be able to do everything, you'll end up weak. Try to focus on a few stats, like vigor, endurance and whatever your main damage stat of choice ends up being.

I can’t even graze Margit. However, I destroyed the Tree Sentinel in 2 minutes 😮. Was level 25 and I used the wolf spirits. Kept attacking him then sprinting away a certain distance before approaching him again.

To me is the knifes that he didn't use in this fight....why am I spammed with the knifes

At what level and stats should I fight him?

Well, Im up to level 51 and just about managed to finish him off. Had to use the wolf spirit and the help of the guy you can summon at the entrance. I found keeping close to him and just bashing with R1 sorted him out. See if theres anything in your inventory you can eat that might increase your protection. I had some kind of leaf I think that I ate before entering the level. One piece of advice - when you kill him you get a ton of tunes. 9000 I think. I was stupid and went exploring into the castle and inevitably met someone nasty who wiped me out and I lost all the runes 😮. Should have levelled up instead of getting carried away.

How the fuck does this work for you but when i dodge him, i get behind him but yet im not behind him because somehow his whole ass body turns god speed and faces me and he finishes me off i dont understand

What level are you on ? I couldn’t finish him off until I was level 50. Went in with the ghost wolf spirit thingy, and the guy you can summon at the entrance. Also swallowed some kind of item that reduces damage before I entered. Managed to kill him in 3 attempts.

@@DorisDay-lw4xs i grinded a ton and got to level 73 when I went to fight him, I don't know if my game is screwed but it seems like ever time I roll towards an enemy they turn into a god damn turret and follow me quicker than I can complete the roll and smack me with the meanest hit I've ever seen

@@ly789 yaa, ended up having to just be patient and stay far enough away to dodge easier until he try and reach me with a jump or staff poke, and then i used mainly heavy jump attack to stagger him.

Dude, I was so scared about this boss, because of what everyone was saying... But I made really really easily with my prophet, with dragon build. Didn't die even once, lmao

Why does he knife me with his spectral dagger even after he stabs his staff in the ground? I can literally not get a hit without trading damage. He seems to behave differently from your video.

It's been like this since the game released. Give it some time and you'll find that certain positioning and attack patterns make more sense. It's not intended to be passed through quickly, it's a major learning moment.

@@theJOSHfeed I beat him. It seems he is more likely to stab you with his dagger when you're in front of him and you immediately try to punish him for his attack. When he stabs his staff into the ground and I managed to dodge behind him and wait half a second, 8/10 times he didn't retaliate when I hit him.

before this video died 29 times after this video died 3 times and beat the Margit. be patient. and wait for him to screw his weapon in ground and hit him 2-5 times. use medium shield that blocks 100% physical this will prevent you from needing to spam roll. I tried summon and it was so easy that I just decided to jump in valley before I accidently kill Margit and end up ruining the fun of it.

Same here. When I tried to kill him it was non stop attack. However, I found that by sticking close to him he wasn’t able to cause as much damage. I went into the attack with the spirit wolves up plus help from the guy you can summon at the entrance to the level. Also, check your inventory and see if theres an item you can eat that might increase your defence or lower the damage caused by attacks. I had some kind of edible that helped a bit.

I just upgraded a bit, went back, took some time to carefully study his movements, and beat him in a little over an hour. The key is understanding that you don't need to fight him immediately and have the option of getting better loot to help either through upgrading, getting better weapons, or valuable tools such as Margit shackle, which allows you to chain him to the ground for a bit to get some free hits off. You also have the option of using your own summons along with the npc summons to make the fight easier. That being said, even with better loot, Margit is still difficult, and you will need to take some time to understand his combos unless you are over-leveled. Usually, when I meet bosses, I take some time to analyze their movements and note all their combos and the timing. In this phase, I'm only really dodging or getting a few hits in to make the analysis easier. After some time of understanding the movements, I will then start trying to get more hits and kill them and, if needed, analyze phase 2 if there is one and proceed from there.

That spiritual sword combo he does is annoying af😅

I agree. The game mechanics are flaky at best. The fact theres no in game manual or help file is really poor. If the developers spent as much time on little things like that as they do with fancy, big bosses, they’d have a great game. As it is, the game is almost great but its faults let it down.

Sorry, but the parry timing in this game is whacky. I'd rather block counter, which gets you a reposte eventually as well.

I know it's old video, but with all respect, this video has a little value to be honest. How do you have so much HP? I normal gameplay, if you play first time you are on three his hits (like u took during battle and still have more than 50%). Really maybe I am a bit tired of this fight, or I don't know, but I didn't see any single video where someone with actual starter character (without any fancy weapons or something like that) can beat this ugly ass. It's soo annoying

Take a look at my stats on the right side of the screen at 7:38. You'll see my character is level 32, with 21 vigor. Anyone can achieve these same stats. All of my boss guides are carefully curated to be at attainable stats relevant to the progress of the game.

Just game itself doesn't tell that "Hey player, I know we are heading you into boss immediately after the start, but before that, you have to increase very much your character lvl and take some items before the fight". For me, if game does something like that then game is broken. But well... I will try another chance when I upgrade my character and we gonna see. Maybe that 30 lvl will be enough. Thanks
