You can do it!

Love what you did here. Another order of things - if you do the coats of Anchor, then stencils on the top & on the drawers, followed by the Ballerina & the Flowers, then paint in your edges OVER the stencils, finally, you can touch-up those stencils again, but do them in a slightly bit different color, maybe darker or more grey, not evenly, can also slightly angle them like an old newsprint slapped down & weathered. Then you don't need to worry about stencils on top of your main images. Like an accurate, layered effect. And I'd line the drawers AFTER the paint & water spray, I tend to also make messes, the wetness getting on the liners is no good. Sometimes, like for the drawers, I use gravity's help, take out of dresser, flip on their backs, do most of my work - that way you don't fight it. Anyway, this came out beautiful!

Find the color that’s closest to the background color in your paper. That’s the best way.

I'm a little confused watching this! Are Dixie papers like transfers sort of? I've never seen a rice paper that you wouldn't have a white or other very light color under the image. Maybe I missed something? How did your project go? Did you do your image directly over black paint as well?

I like the way the ballerina blended on top, but bottom drawers were way to cloudy for me. I thought it needed more of the original paint to blend in closer to flower. I have trouble seeing the shaddows & highlight in paintings so i don't know what I'm thinking.

Very nice video. However, the word is pronounced "day" not "dee" as in day-ku-pazh. Beautiful old craft I did quite a many years ago. Looks like it's having a resurgence. Stenciling too! Glad to see that. Enjoyed the video!

Clear coat is a sealant. I use Dixie belle. It’s water based. You could also search polycrylic.

I’m having a hard time with the lighter colors of silk covering in two coats and blocking bleed through. Lately, it looks good after the first coat, wait two hours, add second coat and ta-da. Bleed through. Even after a third coat. Very frustrating. I’m having to use a primer on oak. Ugh. Amy tips would be appreciated.

Hello! Silk built in primer is equivalent to one coat of clear boss. If this was a piece you would normally take extra care to prime more you could need a extra primer. Old wood is very hard to figure what prep would be needed. If in doubt use boss first on anything.

Sure can! I’d paint a neutral color under first so the paper pops!
