Such a pertinent subject! Lost my mom and dad and that was hard enough getting rid of and downsizing what items I did receive. My daughter died in June and although I only got a little bit, it’s excruciating to go through or get rid of things. Currently, I am making a cut flower garden in her honor. Digging and planting is great therapy for me right now! I have been your follower for a long time and thank you for all that you do on all your channels! You need to know the work you’re do is valuable to the heart & spirit of every listener/viewer! Thank you!!!

I enjoy her logic and her caring way of speaking to all of us when it comes to things. Sometimes we feel a little guilty about materialism but Nikki puts it in clear emotional terms and helps us make sense out of everything. Thank you for an articulate and kind video.

There are some very creative ways to repurpose… I personally love to frame things that are a little out of the box. A shadow box style frame has so many possibilities. This is a time to embrace eccentric design. My mom sent me a postcard, and I have it framed. Because the back of it is made of glass, I can flip it over and read what she wrote to me on that card.

Thank you your advise is very helpful. I lost my husband to cancer four years ago this July, one day before my birthday. I want and tried to figure out how to take steps to declutter his office area, at first I couldn’t look in his office (so many memories), although he told me to cherish the memories. I am taking steps to declutter and you are right…he would not want me to have things around to make me sad. I only wish you were here to help me through this declutter. Thank you again 🌹

this is the hardest part of decluttering for myself. I really have alot of sentimental things in my home. Furniture pieces my father refinished for me would be extremely hard. Right now I'm happy with what I have in my home and I am in the process of decluttering clothing in the closets. My basement is going to be a Summer project though.

I have things from my grandparents and parents that I struggle with parting with. They are a reminder of a kinder gentler time when people wrote letters to each other. And many pictures. This has given me a little boost to thin some things out. Thank you Nikki!

I have been returning gifts back to those who gave them to me. I know some people consider it bad manners to return a gift to a person, but I wait a long while..months or even years...and let them know I am so thankful, but I have run out of room, so I would like them to enjoy the gift they picked out. I even take a photo of the two of us with that gift. p.s. I only give zero clutter gifts from me ...."use-up-able" gifts, like chocolates, real flowers, cheese, wine.

Thank you for your suggestion about truly thinking about whether the gifter would have wanted you to keep a gift if it wasn’t being enjoyed, used, appreciated. If they knew you were only keeping a gift out of gilt, most gifters would want you to do with it whatever made you feel good. Great insight and one that I haven’t heard from other creators (at least in the way I was able to hear it from you).

Thank you Nikki. This segment has been very helpful to me in my mindset. Actually doing them is an issue that I’m trying to work out because I have a knee injury and I have complex PTSD. The PTSD often overrides my ability to take action and get my home in shape. I will download the guide and I’m sure I will watch this segment more than once, as it encourages me to deal with so many items that I have from my parents, my scrapbooking, my wish to get rid of as many electronics that are not being used. Have a wonderful day. Tamie

I've loved finding out of the box ways to repurpose things I can't bring myself to throw away. For example I have a TARDIS shaped cardboard box something I bought came in. For several years I had it hung from the ceiling as decor but it was wearing out so now I have it in a corner as a stand for a lamp. I'm working on reorganizing and I think I'm gonna end up putting all my whovian collectibles in it until I get to the point where I can display them safely.

What about decluttering item that are sentimental to a pre teen child? I myself am not attached to things, but my daughter really is and it has created massive messiness and hoarding in her bedroom.

I appreciate the help, but just hearing how to get rid of stuff makes my stomach turn. It's wonderful advice! I just already am feeling stressed just thinking of this. I want to.. believe me. But idk how to do this. I hate giving ppl things because they destroy them. I don't have kids, and I rarely break or lose things. So I have seen things or heard something, Broke, or ohh yea I gave that to my kids. OMG.. it just kills me. (Even brand new stuff i give as a bday gift!) It was with me 10 yrs and was just fine. They have it 1 day and oops. Yea, sorry! I am crazy I get it! It'd be so hard, I have my grandparents' stuff.. but I will never have another thing of theirs... again! They are gone! And everything my gpa used to give me...he will never do this again. Idk.. I'm venting. Sorry, just a bad day. P.S. also before they passed, they said, "Get rid of everything!" It's not them.. It's 100% me. I'm about to go through this again with my dad's house. I have no siblings, and i have no kids.. he's single. No family. It's just 1 more thing for me to stress over. I'm not looking forward to that. Uhg
