I’m not a minimalist. I never will be. I like stuff too much. But what I HAVE done is use the principles of minimalism to purge my house of all of the excess stuff that we just don’t use. Dawn is my hero and her channel has pushed me to accomplish everything that I have so far in our house! After a couple years of purging, we’ve gotten our house to a very comfortable spot. Everything is organized and has a home. It’s so freeing knowing that I don’t have to get rid of all of my stuff to have a well organized, tidy home!

Yes! Finally, others who are in the middle like me. Why can't we have a proper label? Mediumists? Lol, no, probably just average right? Curious, anyone else a Libra? It's amazing to me how I find myself always looking for the balance. Love Dawn and Madison, but really loving how Angela is the role model I really can aspire to.

My favorite "rules" of minimalism: 1. Keep what you use and love. 2. Own the things, don't let the things own you. Always be willing to let go.

There is an “all or nothing” approach these days, and gatekeeping on so many topics, I love how down to earth this is for all of us and somehow lifted the guilt of not doing enough or not being all in. You are the Queen of Practicality in my box, and a total Mom Queen. Thanks Angela!!!!

I just got diagnosed with ADHD in my 40s and have 0 executive function happening in my brain. I steadily became messier and disorganized till i knew i needed help. Im not a minimalist but watched you tubes on it hoping it would inspire me to do something with my stuff and life. I desire cleanliness and organization but can't achieve it. I know there are so many others like me out there. You're not alone. I appreciate you so much for doing this Angela because i don't want to be a minimalist either 🎉 😂 i feel liberated from the pull that i should be one and concentrate on being me with your tips as a guide that works for my life. 😊

Kudos for this logical post my dear. I got slammed badly on a channel for posting that “I’m tired of being told I should sell my home and live in a couple of bare rooms”. At my age , the things I’ve carefully collected from traveling the world make me recall nice memories. I’m a neat person who loves to donate to help others. I decided that I have no desire at 72 to live in a bare space and refuse to be shamed for it online. My grandsons will enjoy having my thoughtfully curated art etc. You are such a smart thoughtful young mom. I appreciate your lack of judgement of others. Children need memories of a personalized home in my opinion. God Bless

To me minimalism is keeping the things you love, need and use. Everything is else is clutter. Im on a journey to declutter my house before my husband and I downsize into our “retirement home”. I don’t want to pack up things that will just sit in storage for years. I also love the idea of Swedish death cleaning. I don’t want to leave my son the responsibility of going through my clutter and having to deal with and make decisions especially based on his emotional state.

Starting to pare down my home. Needed to hear this. Not a true minimalist. Have many sentimental items and always felt guilty about keeping them. They mean a lot and when I see them they remind me of that person. Love your home. I too feel extreme minimalist can feel cold. It is a lot easier to clean but I want bedside tables because I like to have a lamp and a book etc. So glad you made this video.

I love this! I have tried time and time again to become a minimalist because I thought that's what I needed to do (and because that's what everyone else was doing), but I have found that I am most happy and creative and joyful when I embrace that I am a maximalist. Of course I can be organized, strategic, and utilize decluttering tactics, but I thrive with a lot of options, colors, tchotchkes and everything in between.

I love the principle behind your introduction. I am a minimalist naturally, so the minimalist movement really helps me because I get overwhelmed easily by stuff. But I understand in other areas of my life I feel the pressure of other cultural movements that I might feel there is something wrong with me if it doesn't fit my life & personality. It is so important for us to examine culture, trends, movements, & expectations & not to take on what doesn't work for us & to even look closely to see if it aligns with timeless truths (there are harmful trends out there too). We naturally have a tendency to want to fit into the human tribe because historically if you were cast out survival was rough, but we don't have to worry as much about that with everything as we tend to. We don't have to look like everyone & do the same thing as everyone else (especially as adults we should understand this).

I follow the advice of Dana K White and just have as much stuff as I can keep tidy without stress. She calls it your Clutter Threshold! I had decluttered for years and then one day, I was sick for a week, but it only took a very short time to tidy my house when I got better! It used to feel like a punishment after an illness to have to spend days recleaning my house and now that's gone! I think I have a medium amount of stuff now!?!

Decluttering for Maximalists: 1. One in - One Out: If something comes in, something needs to go out. (Ask if others want it, sell, donate). 2. Increase Quality - cheap stuff breaks 3. Don’t impulse buy - 4. Don’t keep items out of guilt. Pick your favorites.

Being more intentional about what comes into the house is really the key. Not being the "target" of Target, I love it! We have two teenage boys, a dog, and a cat in 1,000 square feet. Every day is a challenge to keep things put away and keep some sanity, but having too much stuff becomes glaringly apparent REAL fast.

I think there are people that take minimalism to the extreme and can distort what it is. I think that it will look different for everyone. What works for one person, won't necessarily work for someone else. I appreciate that you touch on not allowing things to interfere with what is important to you (your priorities and passions). You have a specific amount of space (your home) for things, a specific amount of time and bandwidth to manage these things, and it shouldn't interfere or take priority over you or your family living and enjoying that space. Thank you for how open and honest you are with what you share. You are always kind and quick to remind us that you share the things that have worked (or even not worked) for you. Thank you for allowing your life and experiences to impact others. I truly admire you and always look forward to the next video or blog that you will share!!

SO MUCH common sense in everything you say! Plus, so much room for individualism. Not everyone fits in the same pigeonhole or needs to follow the same "rules." If one doesn't like fashion or one's lifestyle doesn't call for more daily changes or different types of clothes, then the "capsule wardrobe" is perfect for THEM. But that doesn't mean it's perfect for everyone. If you don't entertain often, or at all, you don't need many dishes or serving pieces...but some people do. I got totally turned off by a minimalist that didn't have enough forks in her house for everyone that was coming to her daughter's family birthday party to eat cake so she had one of the guests bring some she could borrow. Frankly, I don't want to have to ask my guests to bring their own forks when they come to my house to eat. Since the minimalism craze began I have become much more alert to things I don't use and donate them and also more intentional about my purchases but I still plan to enjoy things that express beauty and sentimental things (whether I use them, or not) that bring happy memories when I see them. Thanks!...enjoy all your vlogs and your newsletter!

In our consumerist society (and also a society where we crave having a label/“box” for everything) I think we can fall into the trap of thinking we either need to be minimalist or maximalist, but I believe there is a middle of intentional living. I’d like to think that’s how people lived long before before big box stores, online/tv shopping 🤷‍♀️

I've been turned off by so many dogmatic movements such as Veganism and Minimalism because of the moralism associated with it all. It's too much pressure to never be good enough to live up to these extreme standards. I no longer consider myself either though I do enjoy so many things that I learned from both lifestyles. I enjoy fruits and veggies and I love how minimalism can free me from what I didn't really want anyways.

What I do that works well on line or in a store is, I put said item in my cart, I carry it around or leave it overnight and when I check out or go back to the website I look again and decide do I still want or need it. if it is online it works better as I look daily for a week and usually decide nah I dont need it!

I do not consider myself a minimalist. Through our the years, I have discovered that I do however prefer to own less of most items. I struggle with anxiety, time management, & ADD. I feel my best when love, use, & know, all of what I own in my home & car. It feels more manageable for me to stay on top of maintaining things & staying on task. I do not mind owning more of specific categories - Nail polishes, skin care line, hair removal stuff… because I do a lot of my own ‘maintenance’ to save money & I enjoy it. I think it’s a nice balance owning less in categories you don’t care about & more in categories that you’re passionate about or utilize more. ❤ I appreciate your take on the topic. I agree It doesn’t have to be deprivation or maximization. Strike a balance that you feel you thrive in.

Videos that make you feel bad about yourself can be destructive. If a content creator/friend/random person I met at the grocery store doesn't feed my soul, they have no place in my life. I seek encouragement, not the opposite. I suspect the vast majority of us agree with this principle... we're here, after all. Can I get an Amen, sistahs? (What, it's Sunday.)

As a 50 something year old, all these ideas of how we should be living are exhausting. I remember when people just used to be who they were and live how they live. Although there were those who tried to keep up with the Jonse's, whoever the heck they are. I'm glad I grew up in that generation. My heart goes out to this generation that try and live up to Instagram and Pinterest's ideas of what the perfect home should be like. We are minimalist. It’s definitely a spectrum and a personal decision. Changing my mindset to being intentional every time I purchase has saved us money and has opened a door for me to buy higher quality better items that actually fit my style. It’s taking longer to build a wardrobe I love since I’m postpartum, but it’s such a fun journey. We’ve found that with less things we have more time, time to spend with our family making memories. We would like to add more decorations to our lives though! We haven’t found all the right pieces yet. kzread.info/dash/bejne/l6Vnl9GBh9CchM4.html
