And oh my gosh, saving the favorites in a costume drawer or tub! My mom used to let me play dress up with her dresses that she didn't wear anymore and it was one of my FAVORITE things as a kid!
That's the hardest - to get rid of things that you bought but didn't really wear - but you're so right. Sometimes it takes trying a new style to realize it's just not for you and that it's ok to get rid of it.
