What a hard comment

The key ingredients to Emarosa being legendary was Jonny Craig's voice and a stream of consciousness writing style for the songs musical arrangements. Relativity was a stream of consciousness album which made it feel so refreshing to hear for the first time. I like their self-titled album as well, but its a lot more predictable and goes away from the stream of consciousness writing style to a more formulaic direction.

i love emarosa, relativity is what introduced me to them, and obviously JCs vocals are iconic, but i can't lie the new emarosa thats out, the scorpion album? thats genuinely fire, the 80s pop feel is so refreshing to hear, now that being said i understand why people find it disappointing now but when i heard the cover of "i wanna dance with somebody" i could not deny that the vocals were made for that sound

To each their own, I’m glad you liked it, Just not my personal cup of tea. I can completely understand why someone would enjoy it though, they’re a very musically sound band

I was excited to see they did a cover but wish they made the instrumentals different

In 2010 I bought the self titled album having never heard of Emarosa because I really liked the cover art, and happened to really enjoyed the music too. I rediscovered them a bit after Peach Club released on some random spotify playlist and luckily that more pop-driven sound is one I really enjoy too, but I was surprised it was still under the Emarosa name. I can't imagine the whiplash an avid follower must have experienced on every album launch. Great video!

Avid follower here, I wouldn't describe it as whiplash. It was actually more of a slow decent. From the EP to peach club, it's like someone was slowly turning down the 'core' dial. And I was okay with that for a while; versus is an absolute monster of an album. But after that, for me at least, they phased out of the core Goldilocks zone. I'm glad people dig peach club, but its not why I would listen to emarosa

Funny enough, I have liked every release (albeit in different times of my own life) - but Relativity will always be their GOAT for me

In Emarosa and Slaves Jonny was BY FAR the standout member. Slaves did the right thing after Jonny's departure by changing the band name. Emarosa should've changed their name as well instead of trying to bank off of prior success. However, with Dance Gavin Dance Jonny was an equally as good member as the rest of the band and not necessarily a lone standout therefore they didn't really need a name change. Regardless of the clean vocalist in DGD it's easy to pinpoint Will Swan's guitar style and Jon Mess' screaming.

Could not agree more! I’ve felt like this for so long! In the other bands you mentioned, Jonny out powered them and it was the Jonny show. With DGD they were cohesive and all matched each others talent. With Tilian I just listen to listen to the instrumentals and Jon.

By far? Eh... Relativity was special in that a skilled band with a honed sound came together with a generational singer to produce what I'd consider one of the best post-hardcore albums. They sure as hell struck gold landing Jonny, but that album wouldn't be nearly as good if it weren't for the guys backing him, who actually wrote the album. The instrumentals are largely subdued to allow Jonny to shine but know when to push, when to pull, when to swell, they're intricate and emotional all on their own, and tastefully complement the singing perfectly. When I think of that album, I also hear the guitars, the drums, and the bass lines. Heads or Tails is a shining example. I agree about Slaves though. I'll always be a Jonny stan but I was meh on Slaves, though it's grown on me a bit over the years. The instrument work is clean, polished, on time, but feels very uninspired, bland, and forgettable. Jonny definitely carries and when I think of Slaves I just think of his parts. Like, when comparing Relativity vs Beautiful Death, the goal is largely the same: make Jonny shine, but it's the difference between a talented band making the decisions vs Jonny being in the captain's seat n working with session musicians.

I know it’s not a racism thing, i understand what the band was going for, but think about it from the perspective of an outsider who doesn’t know anything about the band, looking at someone wearing a shirt that just says “slaves” isn’t the best look

Bro I did a double take when you name dropped Kingdom Of Giants. Not only would I never expect anyone to know them. I sure as hell would have never expected them to be mentioned in a video about Emarosa KOG has been my favorite band since 2009. Very early. And I’ve been a fan all the way to their most recent release, Passenger. I still have a physical copy of Abominable EP with their original clean vocalist, and a physical copy of Every Wave Of Sound I wasn’t a fan of Emarosa until 2022 surprisingly .

Abominable is such a fantastic release, A Test Of My Survival is easily in my top 3 favorite Metalcore songs. KOG is such a good band

I think all of post hardcore declined into obscurity. And it's sad. Things that killed the genre - computer music, people writing and recording music in separate locations at different times (losing the whole 5 dudes in a garage motif the genre was built on) no more cds to sell, genre got oversaturated with bad versions of an already acquired taste. Relativity is of course masterful in its own right. It speaks for itself. I got back into them with 131 and I really like how they incorporated some nods to 80's pop on helpless and cloud 9, and still had some rock and roll on tracks like blue. Peach club is sort of the line of demarkation for me. We are a full on pop band at this point. Some of the tracks are inspirational and vibey( get back up, help you out) but it at times get's a little too bubble gummy for somebody more connected to their older releases. The new stuff is like a time warp to an 80s soundtrack. I like it, however it's time to market this under a different name. Am I going to hear the past should stay dead or anything from relativity at an emarosa show in 2023? probably not.

Pretty good video. I completely understand where you’re coming from because I like Golden Age Emarosa, but I gotta say, Bradley Emarosa hits pretty hard too. Like I said, it’s just a difference of opinions but I think Peach Club is one of the top albums they’ve done, but that’s just me lol

I liked Versus. I liked 131 (not as much as Versus) but I dipped after that. I didn't like any of their music after 131. Relativity and Self Titled will always be my favourites though.

Glad to see you like This Is Your Way Out so much, man. I was 16 in 2007 and loved it instantly, now I'm 32 and still love it just as much. Great video, I agree with everything you said in this one. Btw, would love a video on Here I Come Falling haha. Awesome band

I love listening to the self titled demos and then listening to how the songs changed for the LP. I do think I prefer Relativity though.

Good for you man, you did your research. I don’t know how old you are, but I lived this. I’ve been a Jonny Craig fan since Ghost Runner on Third, which was a prequel to DGD. But you had some nice insights here. And the Catherine reference…..baller.

131 was a masterpiece

I definitely missed the old emarosa but I do dig there new tunes but I prefer more of rock

This Is Your Way Out - a good Electronicore album. Short lived , and to the point. Unique. Relativity - the best album ever released. The epitome of Rock n Roll. I love this album for the unconventional song structure. An album that stands on its own and will never be recreated. This album is a perfect storm and every contributing member to this album is a legend. There will never be an album like Relativity. Self titled - A good release but it’s just missing that unconventional song structure and spontaneous rock n roll edge that draws me to Relativity. A lot of the songs here are very good, however they just seem more composed and have a certain direction. Whereas, Relativity almost sounds like freestyle. Versus - I’ve tried to be respectful and give this one many listens. But I just can’t enjoy it. It’s not even just the vocals being corny, the entire band is just making different sounds. I’m not Jonny bias cause I didn’t find Emarosa until 2022, but even a late fan can see how bad this album really is. 131 - better than Versus but I can’t. Peach Club - first 5 songs are damn good and Bradley found his sound. Undeniably catchy hits. However the cover art is horrendous . Sting - Emarosa’s best release since self titled. They’ve nailed the new pop rock sound and Bradley is better than ever. Props to riding everything out. I can tell they’ve finally got the new sound down, it took a while to rebrand away from their roots. I’m just bummed it took so long to finally get a great album.

I loved Emarosa with Jonny and I actually enjoyed Versus and 131 but nothing after that.
