Xenophagia - It's quite simple, the BBC provides public broadcast television and radio of the highest quality, without any advertising (so, for example, you get to watch a movie all the way through without interuption). The quality of the programming is world class and much of it is exported to television companies overseas, so you may have seen some (e.g. Life on Earth; Fawlty Towers; Top Gear; Horizon; BBC world service news etc.). In society, there are always some freeloaders who don't want to pay their share. The person who uploaded this video is one of those. (p.s. I love foreign food too).

People have the right to opt out of tv licensing, It's called Legally License Free. As long as you don't receive live TV Broadcast or download from BBC I Player, you do not need a License. It is not freeloading, why pay for a service you don't use. BBC radio is not covered by TV License anymore, only BBC TV and BBC I-player. In these days of pay TV and on demand there is no need for live broadcast. As for the BBC making high quality tv programmes, give me a break, they may air a few good programmes But they are made by 3rd party companies and eventually sold to netflix, sky, amazon etc. I waited a year to watch the night manager on netflix because I don't have live broadcast. just netflix and Amazon Prime. Also the License enforcement officers do not work for the BBC or the government and posses no legal authority.

@@dack6528 Basically on their website they will say "whether a person is watching live tv" but what tha really means is "if a person is watching LIVE BBC programmes, watches anything via BBC Player, or on BBC website/YT/others watches live broadcasting FROM BBC ONLY". So if you watch, say, Sky live - that's none of their business. So it's not whether you have a TV - you can have one and very well never use it for things other than streaming services.

@monozuki I’m not sure if that’s factually correct. Live broadcasts would mean any channel not just the BBC. MoneySavingExpert for example states if you watch anything live broadcasted then you need a tv licence. If you watch catch up on anything excluding BBC Iplayer then you don’t need a licence. Do you have a legit source that states it’s only BBC channels restricted? Even if you have Sky and are watching Channel 5 live you need a tv licence. It’s something to do with the live broadcasting act.

The guy at 6:00 killed me, his posh accent and use of proper English was perfect, usually people who speak like that annoy me, but that there, was pure gold.

When I cancelled mine, i let them know that I did not need a licence, and why. I did that every few months. Why? Because they still sent out their threatening letters with alarming regularity, and their goons. It's a 50/50 chance whether letting them know will stop the threats or not, no matter their promises.

I cancelled my TV licence back in April even though it was valid until the end of October, never asked for a refund neither as just wanted to wash my hands of them, already I've had 2 threatening letters so I've filed them under BS. Very proud of all the people who stood up to these BBC licence "scammers".

Close the door in their face as soon as they say they’re from the T.V. licensing. They try to get your name before they tell you who they are, if they do that close the door in their face. They aren’t allowed to look through your window by law so if you catch them record them and report them to the police as a peeping Tom.

My grandad had the same problem with fishing bailiffs. He never had a fishing license and one bailiff threatened to confiscate his tackle.he politely asked how they are going to do that when they are in the lake with his foot on their head.

This video has been a real eye-opener. I am genuinely shocked & disgusted at the BBC for contracting out these kinds of "GOONS" &, apparently, concentrating their efforts in areas that don't have large incomes. It is, seemingly, only frustrating for them, if it is poorer people who watch TV without a license. We should all write to the Beeb (as I will do) & insist that they call off their goons forthwith!

Why doesn't bbc use encryption system like sky, you pay you get bbc or don't pay you don't get bbc instead of forcing a charge on every houshold in uk.

Arsenal Emirates Unfortunately you generally can't do someone with S143/165 RTA for driving with the wrong class of insurance, as generally an insurance company will always cover for third party risk if a policy is in place. But if the insurance company in question is made aware of the discrepancy, they may well cancel the policy.

If these so called TV Licence revenue collectors are on the side of the Law, why do they run from the camera??? The fact that the don't want to identify themselves also shows that they must be doing something wrong.

You can tell some of the TV licence ppl (like 2 at most) were in the wrong job and were actually really nice and polite. Probably fired soon after for lack of results!

I think the law required you to inform them they're being recorded, so saying nothing could make your evidence inadmissible should anything go wrong. Now a sign might mean you don't need to inform them tho, but you would need to talk to a lawyer about that one

So, let me get this straight. If you tell these people you don't own a TV they want to come in and search your home to confirm that you are telling the truth and that you really don't have one ? TV channels have adverts during shows which is how they fund their channels. Notice how BBC channels don't? They collect a license instead. Any live channel but BBC you do not need a license

Their warrants aren't worth the paper they are printed on mate. I had one come a few years back, and the police showed up with them, I opened the window and told them " you are not getting in and if the police try to help you get in they are breaking criminal law because the police cannot help in a civil matter " I shut the window and they walked away.

Also, just for a laugh and to make a point, ask to see their gun licence. When they say they do not own a gun, tell them you do not believe them and ask for their home address. Explain that you will be visiting them to do an inspection of their property to ensure that they are not using a firearm illegally. Tell them that if they refuse to give their details you will "open an investigation" and that they may be prosecuted or subjected to a police search of their property.

The problem is that when the TV license does eventually go plans are already in place to fund it out of general taxation, then everyone pays and there is no limit on the amount they get. The BBC is a gravy train of eye watering proportions.

I have not paid for a TV licence for over ten years now. I just sent the letter back saying I don't have a TV. My TV can't be seen by looking through my front window. Even if I won the lottery I would not buy a licence as I think the BBC should have to stand on it's own two feet like all the other TV company's. The licence fee is a TAX.

I remember in the 70's when they use to barge their way into your home and get away with it... I so love the fact they send me loads of letters... To the occupier.... I once sent a letter to TV licensing saying “I do not use a TV for live broadcasts. I only use it for DVDs, games and Netflix” and since then I’ve not heard a peep from them! I’ve never got anybody knocking on my door or anything. Although you should never have to contact a company just to tell them you don’t want access to their services, maybe it’s easier to do that?

I proved these goons wrong years ago, I removed the tuner to my TV, that makes it a monitor. But I am paying for it now! Corruption at its best.

Well Done all those people that stood up for themselves. State sponsored TV is bad enough. But being made to pay for it should be unlawful in my opinion. I don't know why the BBC actually believe every single home has a TV. With the computer age, people use that to access programmes that are free of charge! The BBC TV Licence is outdated and they need to accept that they may have had their day, but that is long gone!! Give it up! Stick some adverts on their channel and stop charging people for a service they do not want!! Do remember its called a BBC TV Licence and not a TV Licence - its sole purpose is to pay the BBC for transmission, you don't need to licence a TV, you need a licence to WATCH BBC.

Well said Mel... I have been TV licence free for 12 Years now... The BBC need to accept that it is a different era now..They have had there day and they had a GOOD run... Time to start putting adverts on your channels BBC and accept it is 2018 and not 1962 EDIT... I have had SIXTEEN TV licence goons at my door in 12 Years and not ONE of them has gained access to my home. Come on BBC move into the 21st century and put adverts on your channels.

The one that starts at 5:50 is the funniest thing I have ever seen in my whole life. "Just put down that the implied right of access has been revoked".

True story - Many years ago (early 1990s) a TV license inspector called while I was at work. Being poor (just bought a cheap but rundown home with no heating, no hot water, rotting windows etc) we had a 2nd hand black & white television and black & white license. My wife being honest but naive allowed the inspector in to check that we did have a black & white TV. He asked her to sign a form stating that he had visited. 3 months later we received a court summons and a copy of the form my wife signed. Her statement read that we had a b&w TV and b&w license - but just above her signature were several tiny boxes. 2 of these boxes were ticked - 1 stated 'Colour TV' and the other stated 'VCR' (video recorder which we did not have either). I thought there must be some mistake so I phoned them and was told the inspector had seen both these items. We went to magistrates court to clear things up and the smug faced inspector lied through his teeth - and the magistrates believed him. We had no furniture, could not even afford a bed at that point yet I was fined £85 plus £80 costs (a lot of money back then) for not having a license for a colour TV - a colour TV which I DID NOT HAVE. This then left me in the no-win situation of having to buy a colour TV and colour TV license which I had to take a loan out for. We did nothing wrong yet experienced months of financial hardship thanks to this lying deceitful smug faced vermin of a TV licensing inspector.

If you let them know that you've withdrawn their implied right of access, this gives the BBC enough info to get a warrant from a judge, don't do it. Just don't answer the door to them and if you do, say nothing and close the door, but whatever you do, DO NOT withdraw their implied right of access!!
