2:42 Just a disclaimer, it says don't use tap or bottled water. In some cases, tap water may be fine as long as you tested it with the tds meter and it is less than 45 ppm (that is my recommendation, but dionaeas could actually tolerate much higher but that is my personal recommendation). You can also use any water that is purified such as purified water as that is what I am using, distilled or water that has been reverse osmosised.

Many mixed opinions. Best way is standing water, only add more water 2 days after the water dries out completely. Don’t worry about the moss, it can stay moist for a very long period of time.

I get mixed messages from different videos. I water mine with distilled water about every few days, when the moss feels drying to the touch, with a large syringe into the moss with with the pot resting on gravel to drain. This works well for me , so far.

@Kenneth Reyes: Virtually every professional grower I know keeps them in standing water - including one grower who has studied many species in their native habitats around the world. Moist is not enough. These are swamp/bog plants; they evolved to survive in soggy conditions; they want to be in wet mud.

  • @guzotak

Water actually has to be below 100 ppm, not 50. Here, in Sofia, we get our water supply from the mountains that surround us, Vitosha. especially , the biggest high-altitude mire in Bulgaria. It's 20 ppm. I'm probably the only one who grows CPs here, and in fact the mire is only 10 minutes driving up by car, and there grow S. Purpurea, D. Anglica, D. Filiformis, D. Rotundifolia, P. Balcanica, P. Vulgaris, Darlingtonia Californica, U. Vulgaris, U. Minor, U. Australis.

I grow my Venus Fly Traps, VFTs (Dionaea) inside and I would rather feed mine dehydrated meal worms or blood worms. Most meal worms I have found are for chickens or birds and seem to have extra nutrients added. Where do you people get your meal worms, or blood worms? Are there special meal worms or blood worms for VFTs, or will any dehydrated meal worms do?

You can let it dry out for a day as long as the soil retains some moisture. That will kill the nymphs. The pots can be taken out of the tray so that you can wash them or you can simply pour a lot of rain water into the tray so that it flushes out the nymphs. I use water from my dehumidifier and overflow the trays to flush them out. Never had any problems with mosquito nymphs breeding in them because the water doesn't "stand" for more than a day.
