How To Databend Images in Audacity - A tutorial

Ask me to do databending on stream
/ franksinopg
Some tutorials are kind of bad on KZread, so I made one that explains (in sort of a simple way).

    This video is coming up to being ten years old soon which is wild to me. I'm glad people still seem to come by this video and find it helpful. I kinda cringe when I watch it now, but that's just the name of the game when you get older I guess. I'm planning to remake this soon, and maybe show some other tricks I know of (might be some hex editing if I can remember and how to databend video) Throw this comment a link if you want to see a new updated video :)

    @@vikperson1058 I honestly completely forgot about it and I figure it doesn't matter how late I am now :) sorry about that. I wanted to see if I can go over how I did video databending like in 2 of my other videos and that will take time to come up with a process that's explainable, I just haven't gotten around to it.

    I realize I'm coming to this video pretty late, but great job on the tutorial! I was having trouble getting results from other tutorials (most results just had a big chunk of blank/grey space), but your technique is working great. I think converting it to BMP is probably what helped out the most.

    so for those music producers out there who use fl studio, doing this then opening the image in beepmap can get you some really fun results (you should have use blue on or else it'll be boring)

    Whenever I set the image type to a .bmp file on export, it just automatically turns into a .raw file whenever i look into my file, any idea how to fix this?

    Some things are different in Audacity's layout, but it just worked for me on a fairly recent version. Make sure you're importing raw data, U or A law, and your image is a 24 bit bitmap. Those are the key points. I don't know what your display picture is but I like it. Bird.

  • @T3HM4N244

    @T3HM4N244

    three years later, but still replying. I believe it might be because you are either messing with the header too much or you are messing with the data too much. I know some EQ settings will sometimes gray out my images by a decent amount. I usually find gradually applying filters is better.

    I'm having trouble opening the .raw files. I tried installing the camera codec pack and restarting, but it still doesn't work. How are you able to open the .raw files in windows photo viewer?

  • @T3HM4N244

    i dont open the raw files, you gotta manually add .bmp at the end of the files when you are exporting them

    Start with very small sections of the file just to test it out. If you are just blasting the entire thing with effects you are going to break the file and you wont be able to open it.

    i tried doing this again, but instead of an unopenable file, i got a black image. i can literally just change 0.1 seconds by inverting it and it becomes a black screen. this is so frustraiting. i wish someone could do a 2016 version.
