How to daisy chain a sea kayak tow rope

Спорт

As a kayaking instructor I created this series of videos on knots to introduce members of our club, Sligo Kayak Club (Sligo, Ireland), and any anyone else who may be interested, to rope work.
This video will demonstrate how to daisy chain a sea kayaking tow rope.
A long tow rope is recommended for sea kayaking in rough conditions however a long line e.g. 14m, can be a pain to work with in calm conditions when you need to deploy and pack multiple times. A daisy chain allows you to reduce the working length of the tow line, yet deploy it to full length when required.
Please make sure to test this in calm conditions before taking it into rougher conditions!
Feedback, comments, questions are all welcomed.
Please excuse the quality of this one-take, recording!

That you for showing and explaining how you set up this daisy chain set up on your tow rope. Im going to set my tow belt like this, I looks much easier to manage and easy to use as a short tow line or very quickly converts to a longer tow rope.

Not at all. I hope it was useful. Good luck with it. Would be great to get your feedback after you test it out.

I have the same system on my tow rope, except I use a smaller snap gate carabiner (nautical type), and it’s a Whetman aswell. My one issue with the Whetman is the size and weight of the “Kraken” or whatever it’s called. I see you’ve added a float. If the tow gets abandoned at both ends the kraken will sink like a stone otherwise. I’m thinking of replacing it with a floating clip.

@@DAllan-lz3lgthat was a good idea. The one it came with is quite heavy. This actually came with the float too so I didn't need to install it.
