How to cut creativity out of your life | Danielle Krysa | TEDxNashville

Everyone talks about how to be more creative, but Danielle Krysa (aka the artist/writer behind 'The Jealous Curator') will teach you how to procrastinate, make excuses, and obey your inner critic so that you'll never create anything ever again... unless, of course, you actually start to let yourself have some fun.
Danielle Krysa (Canada) has a BFA in Visual Arts, and a post-grad in graphic design. She is the writer behind the contemporary art site, The Jealous Curator (est.2009), and has curated art shows all over North America. Danielle is also an artist herself, and her narrative mixed media work is held in private collections worldwide. She is the author of several art books, including “Creative Block”, “Your Inner Critic Is A Big Jerk”, “A Big Important Art Book - Now with Women”, and a children’s book titled “How To Spot An Artist”. Danielle has had the great pleasure of speaking at TEDx, PIXAR, Creative Mornings, and was interviewed in a series of video segments on Oprah.com about breaking through creative blocks and self-doubt. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

    I saw this video in my list of videos from subscriptions when it aired, but I was like "naaah, don't think I want to watch it...or?". I didn.t. Now I looked through the list and saw it there again and thought "okay, what is this sh*t about?!" and started watching. SO HAPPY I DID! I love it! And yes, I'm very familiar with feelings like she had about your own art and about listening to critics and the critic in your own head. I procrastinated publishing my first poetrybook for such a long time, because of self-critic thoughts. Eventually though, I decided that Hey, I'm gonna publish these poems in a book only for myself. Only so that I can show myself that I made it! When people then eventually wanted to buy my book, it was just such a bonus! I saved this video and will watch it over and over, whenever my self-critisism gets too loud! ❤

    Self-doubt is the number one reason people don't progress in life...and that doubt will lead to no action. If you have a dream ACT NOW and start work on it.

    Danielle, I am a little annoyed you somehow read ALL of my private thoughts, but I will forgive you. This was so spot on! It's a long story, but I went through a lot of what you describe here. Funny ending:. I'm 55, sing with a band (despite the music teacher who said "Never sing again!") and make art in my secret little studio. Finally found the joy of playing again with creative mediums for ME.

    Is there something specific in the comments that you're complaining about, or are you just trolling for likes?

  • @stufco

    @stufco

    @@atlantic_love not sure if it's still the case, but the top comment was about some investing thing naming someone entirely different than the speaker, and there were several others that seemed to be about it as well. It looked like they were commenting on a different video entirely, and somehow those comments were showing up for this video. I don't care about internet points and don't troll for likes. That's lame. Just thought it was a good video and was gonna comment as such, but got confused when i saw a bunch of comments about a seemingly unrelated thing
