    I had a long row of skinny tiles I needed to install as part of a laundry room backsplash. I was pulling my hair out, as I kept snapping/breaking these tiles when I cut them. I tried your technique and didn't break another tile! Thanks!

    Very good. ... But, what would you recommend if you buy new replacement tiles for a small patch, and the new ones are slightly larger, about 4 -5mm? The tile cutter won't do it. I'm about to buy a cutting disc for the grinder, so wondering if you or your viewers had a better idea.

  • @diyday21

    @diyday21

    Pablo Lobo thanks for watching my video! A good solution for your issue is to cut the tile with your cutter and after that to broke the tile with a nipper. After that is good to stone the rough edge of the tile. This way is better than a grinder.

    I have this exact same tile cutter! It's really cool to see a real professional using it. I found your video because I need to cut baseboard tiles from the tiles I used to cover the floor. They are 12x24 inch tiles. I asked around today all over Lisbon to find some marble shop that would cut the tiles for me. Strips of about 3x24 inch. They will not do it. I don't really understand why. Too much work for little money? Maybe. They all say they are busy. I think cutting strips of tile like you do is a good method but after the cut, the edges are dangerous, they can cut your skin. How would you solve my problem? would you cut the tile strips and then grind or sand the edges? How. Or do you have any other suggestion. Anyway. Thanks alot for teaching me your skills. Have a good day.

    Hi zangarelho ! Thanks a lot for watching my videos and for subscribe. I have two solutions for your problem. It’s simple! 1). We use 8 feet long ( aluminium or plastic) profile on top of the baseboards. Its name is Schluter. You can google for it. I’m in Canada but for sure you can find in Lisbon because Schluter is made in Germany. Also, there are different sizes 4 mm, 6, 8, 10 mm depend how thick is your tile. If you use this Schluter on top you will solve your problem because there are special designed for this problem and also it looks very well. Also there are lot of colors to match with your tiles or to match with the appliances for example. The second method is: Wet Saw for tiles of course. You don’t have to buy one. Go to HomeDepot and rent one for a few hours. It will cut your strips very well. Hope it helps! Please let me know how you solved your problem! Thanks and have a great day! Luchian

    @@diyday21 Those are great advice. The Schluter is a wonderful idea and it gives a luxury look to the floor. The wetsaw, i can't rent it in my area. I think I am going to do a wooden "schluter". It itakes some work to complete but it's cheaper and I have what it takes to do it. If you send me your email, I can send you photos when the job is done! Thanks alot again and have a good night!

    Hey! Great video and good advice for cutting the slim strips - but what if you need to cut a very thin strip off the main piece you want to use? I have to cut around a windowsill and need to remove about 20mm off each tile but they keep breaking and I can't cut further into them. Any suggestions?

  • @diyday21

    Hello and thanks for watching my videos! There are 3 options in your situation: 1) If you didn’t start to install your tiles then make a better layout to end around the window with a big piece which your cutter can cut it. 2) use a wet saw. And 3) cut with your cutter, then brake with pliers, then finish the rough edge with a grinder. Hope it help!

    So basically, use the "tried & true old fashioned method" and take your time rather than hurrying through your project and trying to use a power saw of some sort, like a grinder. I'm game. Awesome! THANKS!!! I need to trim 2"×2" tiles to go around a basement kitchen sink. The countertop is only 5 foot long, minus a sink that's 25" wide by 18" deep on a plywood countertop that's 25" deep. It's a small project, and meant to be temporary while living in my MIL's basement. We already have the tile on hand that I plan to use that we got for 10 cents each about 10 years ago so making sure all the colors match doesn't matter much either. (But I may dismantle the 12"×12" grid pattern to mix & match a bit as I need 4 more supplementary NEW full tiles to complete this project. They're old tile sheets that are starting to come off the glued sheets anyhow, anytime I move them around. I don't fully care if it's perfect looking, just functional for the time being. But it wouldn't hurt to look like we care about how the finished product looks either! 🤣 If it's gonna cost an extra $20 to buy 5 additional tile sheets, I may as well invest the time into incorporating the colors a little bit, right?
