How to cut and splice lining paper around a corner

Lining your walls with lining paper before you hang wallpaper is key to getting a smooth finish for your walls or ceiling, to prepare them for either painting or wallpapering over.
Lining paper can help to:
- disguise small imperfections in the surface of walls
- add another layer of insulation to your room
- prevent wallpaper shrinking when it’s hung on the wall, avoiding gaps between the lengths of paper

Tnx Barry, So glad you didn't show gaps and filling the joint on lining paper. If this is for a lining paper finish, there's no need to splice, or wrap around in one. Just cut at the external, when dry, lightly sand the edges.. then paint. That way you have a clean neat corner.

If I try to do this, or anything that involves a cut close to an edge (for either overlap or splice) with Wallrock Fibreliner, the short piece springs away from the wall, because the paper is stiff. It's "paste the wall" paper, but wetting it doesn't seem to help much either. This has made life very difficult, as many techniques for dealing with windows and corners can't be used. Also, when going around a corner, I often find that the walls are sufficiently out of whack that I need to make relief cuts, or the paper can't sit flat. Any ideas?

Great video, thanks. However, I am needing to do this with wallpaper that has been hung vertically and the splice needs to be cut the full length of a wall. Is there a tool that can be used to enable me to make 1 CONTINUOUS CUT down the 2.4 metre length of my wall? Cheers

There is, but you can do it with a long spirit level, I’ve done it a few times when hanging murals. It makes it easier if you get someone to hold the spirt level 😊

You can purchase special tools that do not damage the wall when doing this. Trouble with scribing the wall at the same time is when you need to do this with the main finish paper you will be able to see the cut very bad. I do not even do this as a job and I know that.
