How To Cultivate A Garden (Becoming Artsy 105: THE GARDEN)

In this episode of Becoming Artsy, Jessie learns how to plant a mixed perennial garden bed with plants for all seasons from Brian Houck, head of grounds and gardens at Getty. She also interviews horticulturist Jackie Flor and gardeners Miguel Ambriz and Elvia Castillo. Jessie learns about plants with names like Brazen Hussy and variegated leaf edges, while also contemplating the garden as a metaphor for life and change.

New favorite episode!! I have never stopped to really appreciate curated gardens like this before and I will never walk through a garden now without taking a moment to appreciate the living work of art that it is, thank you!

Hi Jessie--I love your video series and I really love the gardens at the Getty, but note that you are not planting in 'dirt', rather it is soil or earth or any one of the many other available synonyms. It is important to respect Mother Earth. The word dirt just sounds too dismissive. And thanks for helping us all become more Artsy!
