In this video we discuss the resources available to plan a passage for a North to South passage to the South Pacific, crossing the equator and the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITZC). We show how to use pilot charts, common routes from North America to French Polynesia, using Predict Wind for weather routing and departure planning, and how to stay connected offshore.

This is very interesting, most people think you just jump in the boat and cross an ocean, the planning that gos into a crossing is incredible, takes a lot of smarts thats for sure.

You can just take the Jack Sparrow approach and jump in boat.. a plan is a good start but you can not control mother nature.

Plus there is so much paperwork involved to leave a country and entering another country. Not like when Joshua Slocum set sail around the world in a modified fishing boat with a few barrels of food, a few barrels of water. Fishing gear, A Winchester and a shotgun.
So excited for you guys. In my 70’s so have to set this bucket list item aside. That’s why your site is so important to me. I can share your adventure and it brightens my day.

my respect for Brian grows year after year - a remarkable man, all be safe/well on passage
Have a wonderful passage guys, fair winds and following seas, much love!
I'll be honest, I lost a bit of interest during the last few years but these latest videos remind me the old days. The new crew, a long Pacific passage and back into the part of the world where it all started. Don't get me wrong, I always kept up with you guys because your nice family. Just some honest feedback.
Two Delos videos last week and this week, hooray! Always love when you guys are on a passage.

We would like to see every aspect of your route planning, weather planning and adjustments on the way, how you use your navigation equipment and programs, sails and sail changes with consideration of current conditions and projected conditions. Everything sailing, please. Did enjoy those 8 hour videos of just sailing.
My husband died 4 years ago and Delos got me through my heavy grieving....I'm still here❤
O M G what a non-stop learning fest. Now I want to go to college all over again, and I want Prof Brian for every class - he can explain anything to anyone and everything to everyone. I'd say run for office and save us all, but I love the videos too much. Keep on keeping on, really looking forward to this crossing!
You are so fortunate to have earned the respect of all these companies and to have their equipment onboard. Your planning and experience is second to none. Thanks for who you are and what you do.
just another way that Delos shows us there's so much more to cruising than what meets the eye. Super informative!
Sweet how Sierra was in the frame of video playing, her image reflected in the mirror
Sierra back there livin her best life 😅 She's so stinking cute
I remember the first time I watched your video in 2016 was about crossing pacific that you did much earlier. Now you are crossing again. Wow, this is a voyage of circumnavigation. Congratulations.
Delos and her crew always provide us with knowledge. my dream is to sail or atleast be part of a sailing crew but life here is tough. I know I will do that somebody but I will happily absurb any knowledge possible. Thank you Capt Brian for this!
Sierra playing in the background at the beginning is so cute! Much love from the Netherlands.
Extremely interesting and thought-provoking episode. Shows what really goes into the planning and execution in order to not only complete the transit, but to do it safely. You are living my dream, I'm nearly 70 with 22 years of Naval service, over 17 years assigned to small platforms. While I've seen my share of time at sea, my dream was to sail around the world on my own boat. At my age I'll have to settle for doing it vicariously through you guys!! Fair winds and following seas!!
For first time sailors and or novices, this was a great bit of information. Especially from one of the original sailing channels. So your information is premium. Thanks guys.

Great video. I'll drop my fishing rod everytime I wake up if I were on this boat.😂
cool, elaborate planing cap.... taking so much things in account is just amazing level of knowing and understanding these waters... interesting to watch, makes me as an outsider like being on the boat with u lot.... looking forward for future uploads and wishing you pleasent winds on the way.
Enjoyed this one...we need to see the "back end" operations as well. That's how we learn!
Answered so many questions I had - thanks for taking the time out to make this guys. Safe sailing!
The preparation (and knowledge) is incredible, be safe!
One of my favorite videos , thank you so much for that VALUABLE information Brian. That’s one of my goals once I get my boat is to do your trip. I hope maybe one day I can come sail with all of you.
Love watching your videos guys. Keep up the great work.
I'm so excited to follow this adventure! Safe travels ❤️

Brian & Kaza, Thanks for sharing this information, appreciation the help for us up and coming sailors...
You might consider updating the link on your web page to the 9th edition of World Cruising 2022 since the 7th edition is 2014. Some hurricane season windows have changed over the last 8~9 years.
Brian, great video. But a minor correction: the “Horse latitudes” are not the same as the doldrums aka ITCZ. The horse latitudes are at approximately +/- 30 degrees (as shown in the video at 2:16).
When you have your family on board you can't be to careful. I like that Capt Brian checks and double checked.. I'd trust his experience and attention to details ....😎 you see this isn't a whim . Bon voyage.!
Smart planning. I’m sure by now you all are well established in the route. Best wishes sent. Thanks for the explanations. Enjoy life. 👏⛵️🏝

That was fantastic, looks like it made for a great crossing, I have a lot to learn about forecasts and predictions. Just left to head south from San Francisco, and the wind was 180 of the prediction, I probably could have noticed the instability in the area if I knew more, or had more experience...I will keep learning. Thanks

Love all of this information. Maybe some day I'll get brave enough to make that trip as well.
My first sail we had no internet, only gps and ebirb and a radio…charts and a few books, life is better when simple..life does not have to be complicated ..
Awesome info right there!! Thanks for sharing answered alot o questions! Fair winds n seas!! Say hey to all take care
it will be interesting to see how this planning has and will change over time.

Wow, super cool to see all the data available to plan passage. How accurate was the weather routing?
I found this video very interesting, but I couldn't help but notice the Mitch Albom book The Five People You Meet In Heaven. I thoroughly enjoyed that book as well as follow up The Next Person You Meet In Heaven. Hope you all enjoy it as well.
Very interesting ! Even if I will never sail. Thank you 😊
Really interesting video!
I’m super sleepy. I’ll have to catch up on this tomorrow.
Off the beaten path sounds really great. Let’s go. Dock life is really getting old . Your right the hardest thing to do is leave the dock for long term cruising
Would be cool if you were to come across the Hokulea the Polynesian canoe on a 4 year voyage along the pacific region
Didnt realize your videos were 2 months behind.
awesome! another great video, a comment before even finish watching it!

Great video, guys really good info. Last time I crossed the pacific on the milk run I only had RDF, charts, satnav, a sextant and ocean passages of the world. Gps was only just coming in and unaffordable. On a 38ft boat we did it in 21 days and had similar weather conditions to your trip. This time I’m excited to learn passage planning by electronics and see if we can shave a day or two of the passage. I’m really interested to know how the star link performed with the parameters you mentioned such as roll and pitch, plus did you notice any barometric interference in download speed. Is it really possible to download emails and work while crossing the pacific. Personally I’d rather use that time to declutter my mind than work, but needs must to keep the dream going.
