How To Cross the Pacific Ocean: Passage Planning and Weather Routing 💨 Sailing Vessel Delos

Your weather routing questions answered! A HUGE thanks to Predict Wind for sponsoring this video. Please visit svdelos.com/predictwind to learn more. In this video we discuss the resources available to plan a passage for a North to South passage to the South Pacific, crossing the equator and the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITZC). We show how to use pilot charts, common routes from North America to French Polynesia, using Predict Wind for weather routing and departure planning, and how to stay connected offshore.

This is very interesting, most people think you just jump in the boat and cross an ocean, the planning that gos into a crossing is incredible, takes a lot of smarts thats for sure.

Plus there is so much paperwork involved to leave a country and entering another country. Not like when Joshua Slocum set sail around the world in a modified fishing boat with a few barrels of food, a few barrels of water. Fishing gear, A Winchester and a shotgun.

Extremely interesting and thought-provoking episode. Shows what really goes into the planning and execution in order to not only complete the transit, but to do it safely. You are living my dream, I'm nearly 70 with 22 years of Naval service, over 17 years assigned to small platforms. While I've seen my share of time at sea, my dream was to sail around the world on my own boat. At my age I'll have to settle for doing it vicariously through you guys!! Great video, guys really good info. Last time I crossed the pacific on the milk run I only had RDF, charts, satnav, a sextant and ocean passages of the world. Gps was only just coming in and unaffordable. On a 38ft boat we did it in 21 days and had similar weather conditions to your trip. This time I’m excited to learn passage planning by electronics and see if we can shave a day or two of the passage. I’m really interested to know how the star link performed with the parameters you mentioned such as roll and pitch, plus did you notice any barometric interference in download speed. Is it really possible to download emails and work while crossing the pacific. Personally I’d rather use that time to declutter my mind than work, but needs must to keep the dream going.
