I’ve done something similar around the edges of a light jacket. Just around the collar, down the front edges and at the bottom around the back. I used finer stitches to crochet to, like only 1/8 inch into the edge of the fabric and 1/4 inch spacing with a color matching the jacket. That makes the crochet edging the standout. This is a beautiful idea.

Hi, I watched this video today, just got my power back and installed my computer to work. Thought I would share a short cut. When you get to the end of the blanket stitch, instead of sewing several stitches in the corner and cutting the yarn, do a slip stitch knot through the last stitch, leave the tail to begin the crochet stitch work. When you need to add more yarn to finish the crochet stitches, leave those knot ends a little long so you can crochet those into the crochet stitches. Hides the knots and saves on amount of yarn you need.

On the corners, if you do 2x SC, ch , 2x SC, , instead of 3xSC then you’ll get a square corner 😊. It shouldn’t mess up your pattern either. You can also crochet your blocks together with a slip stitch rather than sew. If sewing I would have used a log stitch (like lacing a corset) to create a flatter join. To finish I would have added an edging or crocheted a border all the way around to create an even edge, but that’s my own preference 😊 I’m very much a ‘make it up as I go along’ crafter, but the suggestions that I’ve given are ones I have learnt from making my own projects, and my OCD tendencies to have a neat finish!

I haven’t checked yet, but have you made any loom bags yet? Possibly a project to consider, especially if you are looking at making a formed base, with a ?crochet strap... Perhaps you can crochet a rounded bottom base and then attach the woven length from the loom around the base... ? Too many ideas, and lots of wool, but still waiting for hubby to make that rod loom you created (just with a few more hoops available so that you can adjust the width!) to try them out 😂

Well all done. I used fall colors and black cotton yarn for the crochet part. My looks different but it looks like a stain glass window as my connection made a ridge instead of laying flat. I love how it turned out. Thanks for idea and video.

Ok tried to eyeball stitches, wasn't satisfied as seem like too many stitches. Thankfully all stitches came out nice and was able to save my yarn. Whew I did mark in pencil and and every 3/8 a stitch. First time did corners wrong and now very happy I did it over. It was also faster. 17 more to do! This will a nice lap project. Thanks for the cool idea and instructions, got to keep busy.

Ok doing single crochet, corners have 7 single crochet? I could not find a written pattern. Hard to see up close as letters and stop and play button in the screen.

Oh yeah found instruction. Yeah my blanket stitch is different than yours. Its all one round corner no separtions. Oh well not doing like yours. 7 crochet stitches in corner for me. Lol.

I made mine 4 1/2" square.

Do you have a formula for how many yards of fabric you need? I would love to try an Afghan with this technique.

2 yards of fabric should make a 40" blanket x 30". So 4 yards should be 80" 30". I am guessing I would like one wider than 30" . So maybe 6 yards would make it 45" wide x 80" blanket.

Do you know if I should use fusible interfacing if I’m making my squares with cotton flannel for a fusion quilt for a baby ?

Yes, I would still use interfacing. Maybe a lighter weight interfacing - but I think it wouldn't keep its shape very well without it.

On this I used a size D hook.

Yes, you do need a needle with a point, and not a blunt tip.

Wait - instead of *sewing* the squares at the end, they can be crocheted together. I believe it's called JAYG (join as you go).

Sorry, I don't have a video. I applied fusible interfacing to one side of the square and then sewed them together to give it some stability.
