Pearls as an embellishment would be gorgeous on this!
I learned how to crochet when I was just a kid and I remember crocheting the edges of baby cloth diapers. They'd turn out so cute. Thank you for reminding me about that beautiful part of my childhood.

Wonderful! Happy New Year!
That is fabulous! Plus you gave me an additional idea! Many of today’s tops are cut far to low for me & I usually put an insert in. I can take those tops & just crochet them together at the split or add to the neckline to make them more modest. New subscriber as of now!! Thank you 😊
I can’t believe I stumbled across this video. 50 yrs ago my mother me made sweatshirts with knitted or crocheted yokes just like this. I can’t wait to try this! The memories of those garments are rushing back. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU!

In the UK this is known as the 'Blanket Stitch'. Used a lot many years ago like in the 1900s to finish off wool blankets. Can be used in embroidery or knitting/crocheting to make a nice edge.

It is also here in America, but if you noticed at the beginning of the video this was something she did live for the first time, so there was no pre-thought about the hem being rolled down or anything but the actual crocheting of the collar which I think looks fantastic!

In South Africa we also call it a blanket stitch, but we work from right to left, not left to right.
Wow! I spent my entire teenage years cutting T-shirts and never realized I could’ve made something so beautiful. You certainly take the terror out of crochet! This is simply stunning and I cannot imagine the endless amounts of possibilities. Thank you so much for sharing

Seeing it for the first time 5 years later.
You have solved a t-shirt dilemma that I have been faced with. I've lost 90+ pounds in the past year. I'm also living in a country that the people are short. I cannot buy off the rack anything. I have about a dozen or so t-shirts that are WAY too large for me. I think that I can make the shoulders narrower by crocheting the yoke and then just take in the side seams to the sleeves. I'm still working on the idea but you have really started me on the way! Thank you! Now if reducing the size of jeans were as easy!

Not knowing your age may I suggest cutting the outer seam (and how ever many in/cm you need to take in) of your jeans & tightly crocheting them back together. If you want to keep the belt loops remove them first, then reattach when you’re finished. Just an idea! This video is really inspirational. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Mind, BLOWN! I have been crocheting for years, and never once thought of doing this. I have many shirts that I have to wear a tank under to prevent exposing too much of me. I am going to do the blanket stitch right on the existing shirt (I don't want to get rid of any of the material) and crochet them closer to my actual neck. THANK YOUUUUUUUU!

Thanks for sharing! I'm so glad you are happy :)
I have been doing this with baby tee shirts for a few years now and it transforms an old plain onesie into a darling little shirt for baby girls. I did this on the top of a dress I have that was starting to get a bit worn. It covered up the problem and made for a beautiful neck edge! Thank you for the video. It really is a lovely way to transform an ordinary plain piece of clothing into something truly personalized and beautiful.

With a grandbaby girl coming in May I was just wondering if I could do this on a couple of little t-shirts but onesies what a great idea!!!
Love the video with all the corrections. Makes me feel normal. Thank you.
You can work directly into the fabric with a hook but using a very small size 6 or 7 steel hook. I have done this many times. Just a suggestion for y'all.

Finally got to this video on your YT channel. Been watching all of them and Love everything. I've already made one of your lacey shawls and can't wait to do this to an inexpensive T-shirt. It looks so much more expensive. Just lovely. Wanted to say what an amazing teacher you are and believe me because I have watched many other crochet channels. Thanks again for sharing your time and knowledge with all of us. You are a Gem. 💗
Realizing I'm not a seamstress, I would think sewing a 1/4 inch seam along the new raw edge and THEN creating the crochet base in that hem (inserting needle into a 2-layer fabric now) would create a sturdier base. The may decrease the chances of the base stitches pulling on the raw fabric over time (wear, washing, etc). I was thinking, one may want to do a running stitch along the crochet base (at the bottom of the created vertical stitches) for a more finished look. Instead of: | | | .... you would now have: |_| |_| |_| .... Just an idea. Definitely have this project on my to-do list!

Terrie Sanders Maccalus Hi Terrie! If you hand wash and dry flat your item, the T-shirt's cut edge doesn't fray. It simply looks beautiful with a delicate, rolled edge. Good luck! :D ♡

Terrie Sanders Maccalus Hi, again! Let me clarify that T-shirt fraying interest a wee bit more. ;) We used to cut the hems off the sleeves and the bottom of our daughters' T-shirts, way back in the late eighties and early nineties, and do lots of different DIY girly techniques in the Cali suburbs we lived in. You can absolutely cut a t-shirt in various different ways, pull and TUG on those frayed t-shirt edges, making them delicately roll, throwing them in the wash and hanging them on a hanger to dry. The T-shirt still did not fray! ;)

You are an answer to my unspoken prayer. I haven’t crocheted in decades due to debilitating health issues. I wasn’t sure my mind could grasp how to do it any more. Your instructions are so detailed and clear, thank you! I’m looking forward to getting the materials to do this project. P.S. I’m sorry that there are people who are posting critical comments. It doesn’t matter if you say blanket stitch. What matters is that you are sharing your art with joy!
This is amazing, Kristin! Getting started with 6 - 7 ft. sounds like a great idea💡.
Hi from down under. I can't believe I fell on your tutorial. I've just purchased a few plain t shirts from Kmart for around the house. I wreck my shirts every year. I'm 69yo and just taught myself to crochet. Half way through my first granny blanket. I can't wait to jazz up my new shirts for summer. I may even shorten the sleeves, but some singlets and do the same. I love all of your work. Thank you!

I never thought to do this sort of crocheting on t-shirts, will definitely try this out. Look forward to more of your brilliant ideas.
I love this and can't wait to try it! Here's a hint for threading the needle -- fold the end of the thread back on itself to create a small loop and thread the loop into the eye.
Thank you for sharing this video on redoing a simple T-shirt DYI into a real cool fashion statement top. Fabulous. I've been wanting to do this, now I have a fun fast easy video that takes me from beginning to end. Luv It.
Thank you! Just the right video for a project I was working on. Not a t-shirt, but a remake of a top I had, that I didn't like the collar. Also made a belt to match. I have this video saved in my favorites and have watched it many times.
I loved this project. Well done. it looks simply lovely
Thank you so much for the easy to follow tutorial! My daughter in law will really enjoy this t-shirt!
What a wonderful tutorial! I loved how you explained it. I made a poncho and the neck was too loose so I used this to make it smaller and with the added picot stitch makes a nice touch. Now I’m m excited to try this on a t-shirt. Thank you.
Loved this video and will definitely be doing it. Could you please consider doing a video on how to add crochet sleeves to a teeshirt. Like many older ladies I prefer to cover the tops of my arms. Thanks.

I've done crochet and knit on the top of sweatshirts, also. It really dresses them up, and makes a cheap sweat shirt look good enough to shop in, or even go to work in.
I love stuff like this! Please make more videos like this especially with T-shirts! You are so creative! Thank you!
Use to crochet manyyyyyyy years ago, wanted to pick it back up now around the holidays looking for something to give to friends when they come over for dinner as a gift, I love your videos, easy to follow then a book
As Lucy Maud Montgomery once said, "this offers such scope for the imagination!" I have several ideas, just watching it. Like... have you ever considered adding a collar onto a tank top? I mean the kind with spaghetti straps. You wouldn't have to cut anything away and you could work right over the spaghetti strap... think about it. Other ideas I have is to use different colors for the collar on different colored shirts. OR, you could make this and then dye the whole thing...? Lots of possibilities! I like the tank top idea because, for me personally, I feel a little too old to wear tank tops. Yet they're great in the heat. I usually end up wearing them with a loose shirt over that... which isn't much cooler. This would solve that problem!
I love this transformation ...you made with the t shirt..i gone do this tomorow with one of my t shirt to...thank you for the idea
What a lovely way to customise your clothes. ❤️👍
FABULOUS ! Can't wait to try it on a tshirt I am supposed to throw away but couldn't . New life for this tshirt :)
Just a suggestion... Next time try it on a colored tee shirt with either matching or better yet contrasting thread/yarn. The white shirt and the white thread/yarn and the white background gives no contrast. It blends together and can make it difficult to see when doing a close up. The camera has no idea what to focus on. But i love the end result!! Beautiful!!

Great idea! This would be great down the outside arm of long sleeve tees! A must before crochet is pre-washing the yarn 🧶 in hot water to shrink it if it has any plant fibers or wool in it. 😊

Just wash your shirt in cold water.....so much less wear and fading. Dry flat, or hanging over back of chair..using towel as buffer layer.
Wonderful and easy! Thank you, just finishing my first one and can't wait to do more.

Good suggestion to sew around it first by hand. I was using an awl to punch holes. I also suggest to fold the top edge of the hem and get through double fabric to seal off the edge from fraying. This works very well. Thank you for the tutorial. I am praying for a young person to come into my life to help me with my teaching channel. G-d bless you!
I love it. Thank you for this very easy to understand tutorial.

I love this. You have turned a run of the mill dollar tee-shirt into a boutique piece that has no boundaries.
